High-quality raw materials for bank and soil protection

From coastal defense to dike reinforcement and from port expansion to bank protection, every water construction project requires a partner who understands what is really needed under extreme conditions. With a wide range of high-quality raw materials, almost fifty years of experience and a deeply rooted advisory role, Rotim Steenbouw is an indispensable link in Dutch hydraulic engineering. Not only as a supplier, but above all as a partner who thinks along with you and looks beyond the material alone.

Throughout the Netherlands, we supply hydraulic engineering projects with our high-quality products that meet the toughest requirements, says Stein Losekoot, the hydraulic engineering expert at Rotim Steenbouw. “With our own transshipment location in Amsterdams port, fast and efficient logistics are possible. Already many hydraulic engineering projects are delivered directly from the quarries in Belgium, which provides favorable transport distances and contributes directly to a lower MKI value.”

From fine filter layers to breakstones

Rotim Stone Construction's product range for hydraulic engineering is broad: from fine filter layers for dike reinforcements to giant quarry stones up to 3,000 kilograms for breakwaters. But that is only the beginning. According to Losekoot, the real strength lies in the combination of supply and advice. ‘Where others issue a price, we think along in terms of product choice, feasibility, environmental performance, MKI optimizations and logistical efficiency. So contractors receive not just raw materials, but complete plans that help them win projects and execute them successfully. This is possible because we control the complete chain, from quarry to project site, which further enhances reliability.“

Secondary raw materials

Sustainability is playing an increasing role in this process. “The market is changing, EQI requirements are becoming stricter and contractors are looking for ways to reduce environmental impact without compromising on quality,” Losekoot knows. “This is why high-quality applications for secondary raw materials are actively sought within hydraulic engineering. Examples are railroad ballast released from projects, carefully cleaned and reused, or copper slag from Hamburg for specific hydraulic engineering applications. Materials such as drain mix and other reuse streams are also being investigated for potential, despite their often negative reputation. The goal: maximum circular and high-quality utilization of residual streams from the GWW.”

The face for hydraulic engineering

Losekoot is the face and point of contact at Rotim for clients in hydraulic engineering. He is young, substantively strong and always looking for smart, sustainable solutions. With his hydraulic engineering background and creative way of thinking, he knows how to translate technical, logistical and sustainable challenges into realistic and efficient plans for the contractor. His approach fits seamlessly with the company's DNA: reliable, well-considered and always thinking just that little bit further than the rest.

With nearly half a century of experience in hydraulic engineering as well as a wide range of products for road construction, sports fields, foundations, concrete and lightweight fill materials, Rotim Stone Construction has grown into a true total supplier in the GWW. “But above all we are a partner: reliable, advising, creative and always thinking ahead. Exactly what Dutch hydraulic engineering needs,” says Losekoot in conclusion.
