Griekspoor provides staff with free sunscreen

The FNV has long argued for the protection of workers who work outside in full sunlight. In fact, outdoor workers are 4 to 5 times more likely to get skin cancer than people working indoors, according to the FNV. UV radiation, particularly from the sun, is the main cause of this disease. Hence the FNV's call for outdoor workers to be protected.

Working conditions

Especially in the summer months, outdoor workers are exposed to harmful UV radiation for long periods of time. UV-protective clothing is not sufficient for this. The use of sunscreen is not yet mandatory, but Griekspoor attaches great importance to the working conditions and well-being of its personnel. Therefore, to protect them from the harmful effects of sun exposure, the company offers free sunscreen to employees.

Owner Frank Griekspoor: "Providing our staff with sunscreen is the least we can do to protect them from the sun as much as possible. We see sunscreen as an important safety measure on the job site. You also don't put your staff to work without safety shoes, goggles or a helmet against things like falling objects or dust particles in the eyes. The sun can also be dangerous in the long run. That is why we have added the use of sunscreen to our policy."
