Plenty of opportunities in project management and partnerships

Collaboration crucial in the future

With more than 110 years of experience and know-how, Franki Grondtechnieken is known worldwide as a specialist in deep foundation techniques. In the past 10 to 15 years, however, it has proven to be not only an executive specialist, but also a reliable partner for the entire project management, from planning and coordination to innovation. And that is a win-win situation for all involved. How this works out in practice Jan Wim Verhoeff, Managing Director, explains.

Whereas before say 10 to 15 years ago Franki was mainly a contractor, now she not only takes on the work, but also the complete coordination of complex projects. A striking example of this is the new building of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in Utrecht. According to Jan-Wim, this approach leads to improved optimization and structure of projects. "For the new RIVM building, we were responsible for the entire construction pit, from the pile foundation to the groundwork. In doing so, we took on the entire coordination. This allowed the main contractor to focus completely on its core tasks. We also prepared a comprehensive safety plan and ensured an effective project management organization, which contributed to the success of the project." In addition to the RIVM project, other striking examples include De Groene Boog A16, the nuclear power plant near Petten and the Thamesweg route in Rotterdam, where Franki not only brought in its deep foundation expertise, but also took on overall project coordination.

International strength

Franki Grondtechnieken is part of Franki Foundations with offices in Belgium, France and the United Kingdom. And since 2008, as the foundation specialist, Franki Foundations has been a member of the BESIX Group. "Being part of an international group offers us important opportunities. For example, thanks to our own engineering department in Belgium, we can think along with the client from an early stage and come up with the best possible solutions." International cooperation also offers many opportunities to innovate. Something that Jan Wim says is an ongoing process in their work. An example of this is the application wherever possible of heavier, longer and thicker foundation piles. "This is necessary not only because of the growing size and height of buildings, but also because it is more efficient; fewer piles means lower costs and reduced environmental impact. We are also optimizing our processes and deploying electrification and cleaner fuels wherever possible."

Collaboration crucial in the future

Another interesting development within Franki is the growing collaboration with partners and fellow contractors. "This will only become more important in the coming years. By working together, all parties involved can focus on their specialties, which is crucial for taking on and executing large and complex projects. Together with partners, we look beyond our own work and strive for optimal results."
