Volvo EC380E Hybrid: greener and more economical

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) introduces its largest-ever model, making its ever-growing range of hybrid models up to 17% more fuel-efficient.

SIMPLE MACHINE WITH GREAT SAVINGS

With the same power as its non-hybrid counterparts, the 38-ton EC380E Hybrid has the added benefit of being a greener choice - thanks to a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 15%. Equipped with Volvo's unique hydraulic hybrid technology, this powerhouse is the perfect choice for customers looking to save fuel, reduce emissions and increase farm profitability.

As the largest hybrid excavator in the range, this new addition builds on a solid foundation. The 2019 unveiling of the revolutionary EC300E Hybrid, hailed then for pushing the boundaries of efficiency while maintaining performance and productivity, was just a taste of what Volvo CE's hybrid technology is capable of. Since its introduction, it has proven to be a reliable partner on the job site. Recently it has been upgraded with an all-new powertrain and expanded to include two new hybrid models - the 25-ton EC250E Hybrid and the 35-ton EC350E Hybrid.

RELIABLE AND ECONOMICAL

All machines in the Hybrid series use Volvo's unique hydraulic hybrid technology, which draws "free" energy from the downward motion of the excavator boom. The boom's powerful and steady lowering movements put pressure on a hydraulic accumulator, which in turn uses this energy to drive the auxiliary hydraulic motor to support the engine system as needed. There is no sacrifice in performance with hybrid models, as these excavators offer the same level of controllability and performance as machines without hybrid drive.

The main difference between Volvo CE's hybrid concept and that of its competitors is that it uses the up and down motion of the boom to recover energy. Other systems typically use swing motion to recover energy. With Volvo CE, customers can recover energy from a typical loading cycle. This allows the system to optimize workflow.

The cost-effective and reliable hybrid solution is easy to maintain and consists of only a handful of additional parts, meaning that the operation of the powerful 38-ton class excavators is not disrupted or complicated.
