In civil engineering, it’s all about reliability. Machines must perform under harsh conditions, and equipment must do what it’s designed to do day in and day out: transport, load, and unload without any surprises. For many contractors and transport companies, that starts with the right trailer. Based in IJsselmuiden, Stoter Truck en Trailer is therefore continuing to build on a clear value proposition: Austrian trailer manufacturing combined with Dutch customization.
Since late 2022, Stoter Truck en Trailer has been the official importer of the Austrian trailer brand Schwarzmüller for the Netherlands. With this partnership, the family-owned company has brought on board a manufacturer known for its robust tipper trailers, low-loaders, and other transport solutions for heavy-duty applications.
According to sales consultant Harmen Beens, it is precisely this combination of industrial production and customization that is the brand’s strength. “Schwarzmüller builds off-the-shelf where possible and custom-built where necessary,” he says. Despite an annual production of about 10,000 vehicles, the factory is equipped to assemble trailers entirely according to the customer’s specifications.
During a consultation with the customer, we go through all relevant options step by step to determine the right configuration for a dump truck or flatbed trailer. In doing so, the customer benefits from the practical experience that Stoter Transport has built up over the years with Schwarzmüller trailers. That knowledge is actively incorporated into the consultation process.
The strength of this Austrian brand lies in a well-thought-out combination of design and ease of use. For example, the trailers are characterized by a relatively low curb weight and a low center of gravity, which contributes to stability during transport and tipping. The tipper is securely mounted in a tapered chassis, ensuring a robust and stable structure. Thanks to the ability to achieve a fifth-wheel load of 18 metric tons, the front axle can be utilized optimally, particularly when paired with a 6×2 tractor. This is also evident in practice during loading: the tipper quickly levels out, allowing the weight to be read accurately.

Schwarzmüller has established itself as a leading player in specific segments, such as dump trucks and flatbed trailers for the construction and infrastructure sectors. According to sales consultant Harmen Beens, this aligns seamlessly with Stoter’s focus. “Our specialization is in the construction industry. We supply trucks and trailers that are fully customized as needed. In addition, our technicians ensure that equipment is back in service quickly in the event of damage or malfunctions. We keep many parts in stock, which allows us to respond quickly. That combination of product and service is essential. Ultimately, it’s all about reliability in practice.”
Flexibility in design is at least as important as payload capacity. Virtually no two trailers leave the factory exactly the same. Depending on the application, the dump trailer is tailored to the job, for example in terms of body volume and design. Details such as hatches, cover systems, and locking mechanisms are also tailored to the user’s daily operations. Additional features such as lighting, tie-down points, and other aids make it possible to load and secure cargo more safely and efficiently. In many cases, the trailer is developed in close consultation with the customer, from the chassis and axle configuration down to the smallest practical details. This ensures it is not a standard product, but a vehicle that does exactly what it needs to do on the construction site.
What sets Stoter apart is its practical approach to trailer manufacturing. The company doesn't just focus on the trailer itself, but on the entire operation: the truck, the work being done, and long-term maintenance.
“A tipper trailer or flatbed trailer isn’t a standard product,” says Beens. “It has to be tailored to the customer’s operations. Sometimes that means a relatively simple configuration; other times, it requires a very specific solution.”
Service and support also play a role in this. From its location in IJsselmuiden, Stoter not only sells trucks and trailers but also provides maintenance and repair services. In this way, the company offers customers in the civil engineering sector a comprehensive package.
“We don’t just supply a trailer,” Beens concludes. “We provide a solution that fits our customers” needs.”
