Concrete. The most widely used building material in the world. We find it everywhere, in part because it is so enormously strong and versatile. The TBS-SVA Group, market leader in drainage solutions, applies concrete to traditional, as well as highly innovative and climate-adaptive drainage products.
"The concrete industry in general does not really have a sexy image in the eyes of many young people ... it is often seen as gray and dusty," says Willy Bruckers, commercial director of the TBS-SVA Group. "But we are actually working on very interesting developments, products and projects and it is important that people know about them," he believes.
"Because how impressive is it to participate in the drainage of Schiphol Airport, or to work at a large container terminal with boats the size of an apartment building? In fact, the TBS-SVA Group is a purveyor of all airport drainage projects. So Schiphol is one of our clients," Willy continued. "By telling people that we also work on these kinds of projects, we hope to motivate young people to come and work in our industry."
Not only the type of projects, but also the innovative nature of the TBS-SVA Group is interesting, according to Willy. "For example, we work with robots and for years we have been developing climate-adaptive products in the field of water filtering, water buffering and water infiltration where we want to infiltrate the water as cleanly as possible. Totally contemporary and focused on the future! By attracting new people with a fresh outlook, the company wants to continue developing innovative and sustainable products in the future.
As a learning company, the TBS-SVA Group therefore offers young people the opportunity to get to know the company and gain experience during their apprenticeship. "In doing so, we consider talent and motivation more important than a diploma," says Willy. "In general with us, if we see potential, someone gets a chance with us, for example to learn the final steps internally. With the right approach and the right guidance, such a person can develop further within our organization. I think it's important that we as a company are open to this," Willy says, explaining that the vacancy texts are even adjusted accordingly, so that it doesn't put people off and they are more inclined to show what they have to offer.
In addition to recruiting new talent, the company also invests in existing employees by putting them in the right place, training them further, allowing them to grow and transfer knowledge. "We like to contribute to both personal development and the development of the organization and, of course, we want to secure the valuable knowledge within the organization." Willy is referring to the fact that in the coming years some loyal employees will be enjoying their well-deserved retirement. "So we welcome (young) new talent as well as experienced employees and people with a distance to the labor market," Willy says and refers to the website. "See what we can offer you and what vacancies are open."
