Many civil engineering professionals have stable jobs. The work is interesting, the salary is good and the colleagues are familiar. Yet sometimes something can gnaw at them; increasingly long travel times, a less good click with a supervisor or work that has become routine after years. According to Lotte Boot and Stephanie Maaskant, owners of secondment agency Sprinter, much of the labor market is exactly in that area: not actively looking for a new job, but open to a better match.
Civil professional Marco Waarts also recognizes that experience. He found a new challenge through Sprinter. “Often we take things for granted,” he says. “That's why I want to dwell on something I value highly: a professional and reliable secondment agency with a personal approach. Through Sprinter, I found a new challenge at a great company.” Waarts' experience shows that a career move does not always stem from dissatisfaction, but rather from the desire to find renewed energy in work.
That approach aligns with the idea Sprinter stands for: matching with a ‘spark. It's about professionals regaining enthusiasm for their work. Personal factors also play a role in this, from hobbies to family situation. Soft skills and personality therefore weigh heavily. Maaskant: ’The interviews with professionals are always non-binding and discrete. Often people are not actively looking for other work, but want to explore what is possible. Sometimes such a conversation is enough to discover that there are more options than you think.“

Sprinter focuses exclusively on civil engineering. That focus, according to the ladies, helps them understand the industry well. They know the roles and functions, as well as the culture of many companies and the composition of teams. “We look not only at what someone does, but especially at who someone is,” Boot explains. “What do you get energy from? What do you find important in your work and beyond? It really has to fit, because someone doesn't just give up the security of an existing job.”
Sprinter works on behalf of civil engineering companies looking to fill a specific position. Because the team knows their clients well, they know which people fit within an organization and what a company needs. If a match occurs, a placement follows in which the professional is supervised through Sprinter for a year. During that period, there are regular evaluations. If the ‘spark’ remains present, the professional will be employed by the client after that year.
According to the ladies, it's ultimately about the long term. “We see ourselves as a springboard. Not just to a new job, but to work that really re-energizes someone.”
