The new top layer on the A50 between the Waterberg junction and the Beekbergen interchange was largely installed by Gebroeders Jansen. The family business has maintained a close working relationship with BAM Infra Nederland since 2009. And that has already borne fruit on various projects, including the integral major maintenance (IGO) of the national highways in Gelderland and Overijssel.

Gebroeders Jansen is a company with three asphalt crews with an average of between 80 and 110 employees in asphalt processing and transport. "Infra contractors 'buy' specialty, knowledge and security from us," begins Joost Jansen, director of Gebroeders Jansen. "For BAM Infra Nederland, we act as a flexible shell with knowledge and expertise in a broad aspect. We often think along in the tender phase in order to improve the quality and robustness of the plans, resulting in fewer failure costs, fewer completion points and all at a fair price. In this way, we know how to strengthen each other again and again, which leads to great results. For example, we jointly made GVO Zuid in Limburg, IVOD in South Holland, the renewal of the road from the Tollplein to the Westerschelde Tunnel and thus also the new surface layer for the IGO project 2021-2022."
Gebroeders Jansen's broad expertise was also used for this project as early as the tender phase. "In the initial phase, we fleshed out the plans in many sessions lasting several hours a day," Jansen knows. "And because of corona time, that was predominantly digital. From that, the common thread emerged to bring the project to completion in a controlled way." The pressure was pretty high, according to Jansen. For various reasons, the overlay was done with a regular top layer and the double-layer asphalt system (Inline pave) was not chosen. Jansen Brothers developed that asphalt system in 2016 and also built specific machinery for it. After validation by the Department of Public Works, it was allowed to be used on our national highways. Big advantage of this system? "Less professionals are needed for processing, as well as fewer raw materials because we run two passes at once. This eliminates the risk of crushing. The road also lasts longer and this technique means that you can apply the top layer in a longer season, so also in February."
In total, some 100,000 tons of asphalt were processed on the A50 alone. "Some 75% of the asphalting work we took care of and delivered neatly on schedule," says Jansen. "Delivering what we promise is our great strength. And we do that both for large infrastructure contractors such as BAM Infra Nederland, but certainly also for smaller, local contractors. They hitch a ride on the economies of scale."
