‘Circular’ has almost become a hallmark. Virtually every municipality, construction company and architect is working on it. With nature inventing circular processes, it is not surprising that people are looking at how recyclable and sustainable materials can be used. Especially when the final product is also often found in a green landscape.
One party that is working hard to give something functional a natural aesthetic appearance as well as building it circularly and sustainably is Kokosystems. The company, originally from Westland, produces and supplies turn-key solutions for various sound challenges in the business and private sectors. Arjan Kick, project manager at Kokosystems, explains, “We develop ‘green noise barriers’ that have not only aesthetic but also ecological added value. With this we score very high in EMVI tender processes.”

Kokowall Sound barrier H=2.5m and L=900m on ground wall along
residential neighborhood of Dalem.
“For our Kokowall® noise barriers, we use the renewable raw material coconut fiber, recycled plastic for the pipes and recyclable steel as a sustainable material. All Kokosystems noise barriers incorporate a sound insulating panel that provides actual sound insulation. The outside of the screens is finished with coconut fibers that provide the ideal attachment for various types of climbing plants. As a result, it has a very high acceptance value in residential areas and along highways.”

Kokowall HA-Minwol noise barrier H=3,5m - H=4,2m and L=155m at ‘Tenniscentrum De Kegel’ in Amstelveen placed along tennis courts at ground level and on the roof of the parking garage.
“Every project in every environment is different, so often it's custom work,” Kick says. “We can provide a suitable soundproofing solution for every situation because we make everything in-house. We guide, advise, engineer and execute. Because the Kokowall® Sound barrier is modular, it can be realized in any size, color scheme or arrangement. And that in a relatively short construction time.” Kick cites a few projects as examples, “On behalf of RWS, we realized noise screen the Goog in Muiderberg. The screen, 100 meters long and 2.5 meters high, is not only very attractive but local residents experience significantly less noise pollution. Commissioned by Bouwbedrijf Netjes BV we have installed a screen along the tennis courts at the Nationaal Tennis Centrum in Amstelveen (Sportpark De Kegel). A real eye-cather!” The special feature of this project was that on the one hand a structure had to be placed in the ground level and on the other hand the structure had to be anchored on the roof of a parking garage. “Then good cooperation is very important!” The tennis court side is finished with a layer of mineral wool, fitted with wind cloth and a plastic mesh net. The neighboring residents“ side is directly vegetated, giving it a nice look, to minimize the impact of the tennis court. And finally, Kick mentions the sound barrier in residential area Dalem in Tilburg. ”There we previously placed 450 meters of noise barrier on a ground wall. Now, in the same district in mirror image, we are again constructing a 450-meter sound barrier between the residential area and provincial road."
