Nowadays, most companies in civil engineering have their administration well organized using software programs. This is not the case in the field, where excel, pen and paper are often still used. This can also be done differently.
In 2017, Cleverdesk entered the market. This is a project scheduling software program developed by Idee101, three young entrepreneurs who started creating custom web design and online software in 2012. They also started developing and building standard timekeeping and equipment modules appropriate to this sector for two clients in the ground, road and hydraulic engineering sector. "That was necessary too," says Maarten Overeem, co-founder/director of Idee101. "Most GWW companies have their administration well organized using financial software. In the field it is different, there they often still work with excel, pen and paper." A planning module followed and the software packages continued to expand. In 2017, the name Cleverdesk was introduced. Overeem: "Then we, new kids on the block, suddenly had to compete against renowned names. In the meantime, we have grown into an agency with 10 employees."

Business is booming. Dozens of companies and thousands of users are already working with Cleverdesk. Cleverdesk offers the GWW sector a platform for digitizing the entire operation. From project schedules to timesheets and work orders. People in the field can register their hours, declarations and mileage allowances via their own 'devices'. There is also an equipment module to which labor can also be linked and where scanning solutions are also possible. "We set it up so that it works for all GWW companies, despite the many differences between them. You do get our people and service with it. We also make sure that everything works as quickly as possible," Overeem said.

Idea101 is always innovating and renewing.
"We are positive about the future," he continues. "Due to climate change, there will continue to be a lot of work in GWW in the near future and digitization is badly needed. In addition, we always try to look to the future with innovative eyes. We work completely paperless and manage our own forest in the arboretum in Assen. For every new customer we plant a tree here. We are making this forest smart by placing sensors everywhere. As a result, a virtual forest can be seen on our website in due course," concludes Overeem.
