Custom-made anchor seats and foundation components

A network of specialized companies is working on the Neder-Betuwe dike reinforcement project, ensuring that every detail is just right. For example, Ton van Leeuwen Snijwerken is making a significant contribution to the anchoring structures. It’s a project the team is justifiably proud of.

The project arose from a close collaboration with High 5 Solutions, a specialist in installing anchors. “Thanks to the strong relationship we’ve built over the years, the decision was an easy one: we’re taking on this challenge together as well,” says Erwin Werrie of Ton van Leeuwen Snijwerken. “For this project, we’re supplying the anchor seats on demand, but we’re also delivering various supporting foundation components directly to the dike alliance.”

Execution class 3

At first glance, an anchor seat may seem like a simple component, but appearances can be deceiving. This connecting piece transfers the force from the sheet pile wall to the anchor. “The assembly consists of a base plate in various sizes and thicknesses, into which an angled hole is cut,” explains Erwin. “We then weld a thick-walled pipe to the plate and weld it all the way around. Separately, we supply a special concave-convex ring system.” The entire production process is carried out in accordance with execution class 3, which sets high standards for quality, documentation, and inspection.

Full traceability

Quality assurance is a key part of the project. “An independent party handles quality control,” says Erwin. “During the preparation phase, we contributed ideas on how to structure the documentation and processes. Together, we developed a system in which all information is carefully recorded. For a project of this scale, full traceability is essential: from the purchased materials to the final product, everything must be verifiable and traceable.”

On-demand production

Ton van Leeuwen Snijwerken has already purchased all the sheet metal and tubing needed for this project. “Production of the anchor seats is carried out in phases and on an as-needed basis. As soon as a new sheet pile wall is approved, we begin production of the corresponding components. This provides flexibility for the project and certainty for the client.”

End plates and flags

In addition to anchor seats, Ton van Leeuwen Snijwerken also supplies various auxiliary materials directly to the Dike Alliance, including end plates for purlins and special spacers between the sheet piling and the purlin beams. “We provided these components with chamfers ‘right from the factory,’ eliminating the need for additional machining on the construction site,” explains Erwin.

Smartest Solution

As an experienced supplier for dike reinforcement projects, Ton van Leeuwen Snijwerken speaks the same language as its clients. “We’re often involved right from the design phase, because we know better than anyone how a foundation project works—from sheet piles and purlins to auxiliary materials and anchoring accessories,” says Erwin. “Although digitization and automation are playing an increasingly important role in our processes, we place great value on personal contact. This is appreciated and ensures that we not only deliver what’s requested, but—more importantly—can also help devise the smartest solution.”
