Along the A2 motorway between the Het Vonderen and Kerensheide interchanges is a well-oiled construction site that is in constant motion. It includes the mobile cranes, GPS loading shovels and tractors of Loonbedrijf Gebr. Timmers, operated by a flexible team of experienced professionals. A company that can also scale up quickly when the project demands it.
Main contractor Boskalis likes to surround itself with familiar relations. “In the period from 2013 to 2017, we worked intensively together on the Buitenring Parkstad,” says Frank Timmers of Loonbedrijf Gebr. Timmers. “Within that project, several contractors were active who are also involved here at the A2 now. The positive experiences then formed the basis for the invitation to participate in this project as well. And we are happy to continue that cooperation now.”
In the widening of the A2, Loonbedrijf Gebr. Timmers is fulfilling a supporting and executive role by providing both equipment and experienced operating personnel. “The machinery we deploy includes mobile cranes and loading shovels with GPS, container trucks, vehicles with loading crane, tractors with ground tippers and tractors with roller brooms and vacuum tanks,” says Timmers. “With these, we carry out a variety of work, such as earth moving, sweeping, spraying, dust control and keeping roads and driving plates clean. Where necessary, we scale up flexibly and deploy additional people and machines.”
According to Timmers, the daily challenge lies in the optimal deployment of people and equipment: at the right time, in the right place. ‘This requires short lines of communication and rapid switching, especially when the work intensifies. In doing so, we constantly keep a sharp eye on our responsibility to the client, with room to make immediate adjustments when the situation demands it.“
In addition, Loonbedrijf Gebr. Timmers provides another important service that contributes to the continuity of the project. “We are regularly used for smaller repairs,” says Timmers. “With our own mechanics and service trucks, we perform repair work on, for example, rollers, vibratory plates and other machinery of the main contractor or other parties. Welding work is also among the possibilities.”
According to Timmers, the cooperation is going to the satisfaction of both parties. “Extra staffing at closures was filled in smoothly and the coordination with Boskalis and the implementers in the field is running smoothly.” And that cooperation is only intensifying. “We continue to invest in people and equipment. For example, a new mobile crane (18 tons) and a loading shovel (16 tons) with GPS are being added to the machinery fleet and deployed on this project.”
