For 25 years specialist in foundations and (special) anchors

For more than 25 years, De Vries Titan has been a valued player in the world of foundations and anchors. The company has built up a strong name over that time, with a regular customer base that calls on them especially when the projects become really complex. That is exactly where De Vries Titan makes a difference: thinking along with clients and realizing the best solutions together, even when the circumstances are challenging. Managing Director Hendrik van de Woestijne gives us a look behind the scenes.

De Vries Titan has a close-knit core of professionals and a modern fleet of machinery, with the ability to scale up when projects demand it. "Our working area extends across the Netherlands and Belgium, and occasionally we also take on projects in Germany," says Van de Woestijne.

Grout anchors and anchor piles

We have traditionally specialized in the installation of grout anchors and anchor piles, particularly in infrastructure and utility construction, says the manager enthusiastically. "Think of underground construction projects, building pits and quay walls. An appealing example, for example, is our contribution to the A9 project, where we did a huge amount of work together with a fellow contractor. We also provided a large construction pit with grout anchors for the new nuclear power plant in Petten, of which a second construction pit will soon be founded with anchor piles. For our sister company De Vries Werkendam we are currently active on a shoring project in Alphen aan den Rijn and surroundings. Here we are replacing several kilometers of shoring, which we are anchoring with a total of more than a thousand grout anchors. A project that we are carrying out entirely from the water."

String anchors

We are especially found when a project is a bit more complex or has more challenges, Van de Woestijne says. "In addition, we are familiar with special techniques. The installation of strand anchors of high-grade steel is a speciality. It is technically quite challenging. Many of our competitors are less keen on this, while for us this is one of our areas of expertise. The technique also contributes to a smaller footprint from an ecological point of view; much less steel is required. In inner-city areas, where temporary structures are needed for the construction of a basement, for example, strand anchors additionally offer the advantage that they can be completely removed afterwards."

Innovation

In addition to executing projects, De Vries Titan is investing in the future. The company is working hard to electrify its machinery, an important step in reducing CO2 emissions. Although the transition is complex due to the large power and hydraulic systems of the machines, Van de Woestijne expects to be able to install the first anchors fully electrically next year. Investments are also being made in new techniques, such as the overhaul and optimization of a rack for drilling anchors overhead. This will allow us to serve clients even better and steadily build on our solid reputation built up over the past 25 years."

The agenda is also already quite full. "In 2026 we will start work on the widening of the A15 near Zevenaar (ViA15), a project that will require more than five thousand anchors. This extensive work, which is expected to take a year, requires multiple scaffolds and intensive cooperation with other parties," Van de Woestijne explains. "It's a completely different subsoil again than at the A9 in Amstelveen, where we are dealing mainly with soft layers and fine sand. That variation makes our work varied and challenging."
