If you follow the news, it cannot have escaped your notice; reports about water in the Netherlands. For example, the quality of surface water in the Netherlands does not meet the European standard and environmental services have difficulty carrying out their monitoring tasks due to staff shortages. In addition, the availability of water in dry summers is under pressure, while the demand for water in the Netherlands continues to rise. In short, the vulnerability of our water is increasingly being felt.
Water also plays a major role in inner cities. To improve the quality of stay in inner cities, more and more places are greening the center. But how do you keep all that green? "Going into the city with polluting tractors and water tanks containing qualitatively questionable surface water to water urban greenery is a thing of the past as far as we are concerned," says Rieks Hulst, manager of product development and marketing at ACO. "We feel that now is the time to take the next step and deal differently with precious rainwater and aim to close the natural water chain."
"We think it is very important that the value of rainwater is understood. Collecting and reusing rainwater is the solution in our opinion," Rieks Hulst continued. "But rainwater that falls and runs off is unfortunately directly polluted in many ways with de-icing salts, heavy metals and PAHs. Watertight line drainage, treatment solutions and calamity valves ensure that the quality of rainwater is safeguarded. In this way, we can ensure that rainwater can be reused without causing further damage to the environment."
Still, finding the right solutions for water management in a climate-adaptive city center proves to be a real quest. "Many parties we talk to are often surprised that we provide total solutions to this problem," notes Rieks. "We control the complete water chain and offer knowledge, products and service under one roof."
The unruly practice also presents challenges. Especially in this day and age. Installation errors or lack of hands for control and maintenance mean that all the well-intentioned features sometimes don't work. "This is why we are at an advanced stage with developments of smart control devices. Using the latest technology, errors are automatically reported and failures can be detected faster and solved efficiently. Curious about our solutions visit our booth 2.406 at InfraTech in Rotterdam."
