InterAx is Tensar's latest generation of geogrids. The most innovative geogrid to date was introduced simultaneously with the accompanying Tensar+ design software to quantify the benefits of InterAx. And it is paying off. According to commercial technical consultant Pieter-Jan Kamphuis, the latest generation geogrid is catching on.
Having worked at a Tensar dealer for over 22 years, Pieter-Jan has been working for Tensar since March 2023. So he knows better than anyone else about the qualities of the different generations of geogrids. "I know Tensar's products inside out, and the geogrid has developed tremendously over the years," he says. "The latest generation of InterAx is in a class of its own. It is absolutely the most innovative geogrid to date. And we can now back that up with real-world examples. Clients are also enthusiastic about the new product and benefit from the advantages in time, money and CO2 reduction when using InterAx."
Twelve global teams and more than 10,000 hours of R&D led to the development of Tensar InterAx geogrid. "The optimized geometry and composition maximizes the confinement of granular material, allowing you to save on the layer thickness of the granular material, layer thickness of the asphalt and add service life," explains Pieter-Jan. "This not only saves money, but also time in application. And fewer transport movements means lower CO2 emissions." Although the new geogrid is already widely used, Pieter-Jan still visits potential clients, engineering firms and contractors on a weekly basis who want to know the ins and outs of this innovative product. "When they hear what it gives them, mainly in terms of sustainability, InterAx can even contribute to winning an EMVI project. By applying our latest geogrids, with accompanying environmental certificates (EPDs), they can get a discount on the tender due to a good MKI score and therefore win a project. And then the client is assured of a sustainable solution."
With the free road and geotechnical design software Tensar+, you can also quantify the benefits of using InterAx. "The software can be used anywhere and is always accessible online," according to Pieter-Jan. "In the application, you can design your project, retrieve the specifications and specification and see the cost savings in real time." InterAx is also a sustainable application. Should the geogrid be removed over time, Pieter-Jan says it can be easily recycled. "We have conducted tests where the geogrid is recycled and reprocessed into pellets for the production of street furniture and retaining structures." Within three to five years, Pieter-Jan expects Tensar to reach the point where even a recycled geogrid can be made from an extracted geogrid. "Then the circular circle will be complete."
