First electric construction truck with heavy-duty truck-mounted crane for Kisjes Transport 

Kisjes Transport takes another electric truck into service, following the previously delivered Volvo FH Electric. The first Volvo FMX Electric with 50 ton meter truck-mounted crane in the Netherlands has been added to the fleet of sister company Vels Transport in Oostzaan. With this, the companies are taking the next step towards emission-free transport. 

The all-electric Volvo FMX 6x2V Electric with Hyva HMF self-loading crane - equipped with jib and over thirty meters of mast - will mainly perform lifting work on construction projects. "When tendering for a project, clients demand that material be delivered zero-emission," says director Gerbrand Oterdoom. "So the purchase of this electric truck can make the difference between being awarded a project or not. It is a great advantage that we can now make our deliveries emission-free in, for example, the inner city of Amsterdam - also in view of the arrival of zero-emission zones in 2025." 

Many options and ex-factory solutions 

"Volvo Trucks is at the forefront of electric trucks. The technical options for the configuration of their electric truck range is the same as their diesel trucks. This really sets the brand apart. Moreover, Volvo Trucks offers many options ex-factory, including the reinforced chassis of this FMX Electric," continued Oterdoom. "We want to eliminate risks as much as possible, which is why we go for the certainty of an ex-factory solution. For that reason, we also opted for a service contract with Volvo Trucks for maintenance." 

Comprehensive advice and good guidance 

The truck was delivered by LVS Trucks. Vels Transport received good advice and guidance leading up to the purchase. "The deployment of an electric truck involves so much more than just the vehicle. It is therefore nice to be able to rely on the expertise of the Volvo Trucks dealer in the field of electric transport," says Oterdoom. "Among other things, we looked at TCO and the experiences of companies already operating electric trucks. We also talked extensively about the charging infrastructure and what we need in terms of capacity to scale up further in the future. We had charging facilities installed for this electric FMX and the previously delivered Volvo FH Electric on our premises in Oostzaan." 

Driver coaching and insight into energy consumption 

Prior to the purchase, the company drove an electric demo truck. Under the guidance of a driver trainer, drivers received tips and instructions on how to drive as energy-efficiently as possible. 

Standard with an electric Volvo truck, Volvo Connect's range optimization package comes standard. Among other things, it provides a route planning and action radar simulation tool to simulate the truck's route and get a prediction of its range and energy consumption. It also provides insight into how the electric vehicles are deployed, including their energy consumption, driving distance and more. "This makes it easy to monitor the performance of our fleet and driver efficiency. It allows us to quickly identify and follow up on areas for improvement. In addition, drivers get onboard Driver Coaching with instant feedback on their driving style. It helps to improve the driving style to get the most out of the range," Oterdoom concludes.
