Turned tilt for compact machines takes off

Rotary tilt for compact machines takes off in a big way

One of the most innovative pieces of equipment for excavators is the rotary attachment, which has more than proved its worth in the Benelux, particularly in the last decade in the segment of mobile excavators and crawler cranes between 10 and 33 tons. Surprisingly, the turntable attachment has recently taken off in compact machines in the landscaping industry, among others.

"Whereas we thought it would be a challenge outside the road construction sector, for example, to further roll out the swivel tilt to smaller machines, because the investment relative to the machine itself is sometimes substantial, we are actually seeing a strong spontaneous increase in demand. Especially in the past year," says Martin Frid, regional manager at engcon. He attributes the accelerated growth in part to the fact that people are spending more time in and around the home due to the corona crisis and have focused on landscaping or a swimming pool.

GREEN SPECIALISTS

"That means that green specialists such as landscapers are a lot busier. These are often young entrepreneurs who actually now see an opportunity to grow and in doing so are thinking very business-like about where they want to go and what informed investment decisions fit into their future," Frid observes. "They ask themselves things like, 'Do I keep the existing mini excavator or do I just invest in a new crane with the latest technology?' But also, 'How do I make the crane I have more versatile, allowing me to work faster and take on more jobs?'"

FAST, EFFICIENT AND PRECISE

"A rotary attachment can provide an excellent answer to those questions because work can be done faster, more efficiently but still very precisely. Because landscapers often work on a project basis, the purchase of an engcon will pay for itself in a very short time. The use of a rotary attachment also contributes to greater safety in the workplace and makes landscapers much more independent, because they can offer a wider range of work without having to hire another party or other machines," Frid adds.

PARTICULAR TREND

Frid considers it an extraordinary trend. "This shows that the market in the Benelux is maturing, to the point where technology is being embraced across the industry and across the full range of machines between 1.5 and 33 tons. That also the smaller entrepreneur with compact cranes wants to invest in these solutions, because they understand that it makes them more independent at a time when orders are only increasing and it is also common knowledge that it is increasingly difficult to find good people," Frid concludes.
