Komatsu electric mini-excavator presented at Bauma 2019

Komatsu Ltd. has developed an electric mini-excavator that sets the trend for the new generation of construction machinery and presented it at Bauma 2019.

This industry-defining model leverages Komatsu's accumulated technological experience in hybrid construction equipment and electric forklifts. Thanks to a new charger developed in-house, a high-voltage inverter and several other components, it provides digging results comparable to the internal combustion model with the same power, but with zero exhaust emissions and much less noise pollution. This machine is both environmentally and people friendly. Komatsu sees numerous applications for this machine, including construction work near hospitals, schools or residential areas, where contractors pay extra attention to exhaust emissions and noise pollution while working, as well as in tunnels or buildings.

The new electric mini-excavator is equipped with the easy-to-maintain battery also used with Komatsu's popular FE Series electric forklifts. When fully charged, it can be operated for two to six hours*. The battery also recharges faster, such as during lunch breaks, making it available for more hours of operation. It tracks power consumption and charging status in real time on its built-in monitor panel. Via KOMTRAX, this information can also be viewed remotely as well as the machine's location and working conditions.

Since all high-voltage components are mounted on the rear of the mini-excavator, operators do not have to touch them during daily checks before starting work, adding to safety and ease of maintenance.

Komatsu is already testing this model at customer worksites so that it can be introduced as soon as possible.
