One-stop shop for support and formwork systems

Countless construction and infrastructure projects around the world have been built with Doka solutions. Building consortium De Groene Boog also called on the expertise of the formwork specialist for the A16 Rotterdam motorway, supplying the necessary systems for just about every structure. The cream of the crop was surely the formwork for the inventive Incremental Launching Method used on the viaduct over the Tebregseplein, but the curved concrete trough girder of the structure that was driven in during the long Ascension weekend (KW52B) was also built with Doka systems. 

Doka's systems are ideally suited for use in infrastructure projects. The Dutch division of the globally operating company has now amply proved this on the A16 Rotterdam. At an earlier stage Doka supplied the formwork and floor support for the construction of the elements of the Terbregseplein viaduct. In order to allow traffic to continue as normal during construction of the viaduct, a technique that is unique by Dutch standards was used: the Incremental Launching Method (ILM), in which the elements were lowered over the A20 from one side.

Carrier formwork Top 50

Doka delivered carrier formwork Top 50 for the ILM technology at the pre-construction site. "This is because the viaduct was built from one side in segments and slid in over the piers. Those segments were each poured into our formwork," says Harry van Rijswijk of Doka Netherlands. "The construction of the formwork system was designed so that it could be lowered hydraulically, after which the element was slid in further, only to move the formwork up again to produce the next segment. This cycle was repeated seventeen times until the viaduct reached the other side. After this, this process was repeated again for a second deck of seventeen segments. Major advantage of our carrier formwork Top 50 is that the shape, size, anchor image and shuttering plate of the panels can be adapted to any need. Depending on the expected load, the distances of the Doka girders H20 and the purlins are arranged so that the position of the formwork panel can be freely chosen."

From tunnel to viaduct

Doka Netherlands is the only party in the Netherlands that can handle the inventive ILM technique, a proven technique for building structures in mountainous areas. "And then you very quickly come into the picture for supplying support and formwork systems for the other components on the project," says Denick van Gemert of Doka Nederland. "So we have also supplied wall and support systems for the construction of the Rottemer Tunnel and of various other structures, such as the KW52B curved trough beam. Our girder formwork Top 50 was also used for this. With this system, it was possible to form around the anchor couplers relatively easily and, not least, to achieve the curved shape. We prepared complete bulkheads in our workshop in Oss, so that on site it was just a matter of clicking them together. On construction we carried out a final check on the system to see if it was built as conceived on the drawing."

And so Doka has contributed to almost every work of art on the A16 Rotterdam. "Our solutions are known in the market as quality products.
