For the conversion of RWZI Echten to a sustainable sludge digestion plant, four existing tanks are upgraded and sealed with a concrete deck. Stalen Steigers van Dorland was called in to scaffold the tanks all around and to provide the support structures in the tanks for pouring the deck. Especially the latter is an art in itself.
As a specialist in the assembly and disassembly of support structures for concrete construction, Stalen Steigers van Dorland travels all over the country. The Groningen-based company is very flexible and widely deployable. "We focus primarily on realizing support structures for concrete construction, but do not hesitate to occasionally scaffold a facade or church tower," says director Henk van Dorland with nearly 50 years of experience in scaffolding construction. "In all those years we have done almost everything at one time or another. No challenge is too crazy for us, including the assembly and especially soon the disassembly of a support structure in an enclosed tank silo."

Stalen Steigers van Dorland is a welcome partner on many an infrastructure project and has been working in that capacity for Van Hattum en Blankevoort, the construction main contractor for the conversion at RWZI Echten, for many years. "We take great care of our customers and have in Van Hattum en Blankevoort a very satisfied client," says Henk. At the Echten WWTP, Stalen Steigers van Dorland is providing both the external scaffolding around the tank silos and the support structures inside the tanks. "All tanks are provided with a concrete deck that is poured on site. And we provide the support for that. We're just super good at that, a real specialist. Anyone can build facade scaffolding, but support scaffolding is of a different order. Entirely different forces are involved and the dimensions are also decisive. We even take care of the fine-tuning and assist the contractor in placing the formwork."

At the WWTP in Echten, Stalen Steigers van Dorland uses the equipment service of the contractor: VolkerWessels Materieel & Logistiek. "It took some getting used to, because usually we use our own equipment from regular suppliers, but even with this our guys were soon able to get along," says Henk, who is only too proud of his staff. "We have a nice club of people who are also loyal. They know each other through and through and are perfectly attuned to each other. That means we can switch quickly, which is also a requirement here in Echten. We follow the contractor's tight schedule and to our client's complete satisfaction, so far."
Stalen Steigers van Dorland operates throughout the Netherlands and is very broadly certified. Henk: "We have a strong focus on safety, are ISO and VCA certified, among others, and occupy step 3 on the Safety Ladder. These certifications are not only nice to hang on the wall, but we also act accordingly. By doing so, we guarantee high quality and even get works awarded."
