Oudenhoorn pumping station transforms from fossil to electric. The roaring and smelly diesel engine is being replaced by a modern and silent electric pumping station. Since much of the existing substructure will be retained, this presents the necessary challenges for the integration of a completely new electrical installation. Reason for water board Hollandse Delta to bring in permanent partner REMONDIS Smart Infra to the construction team.
In the preliminary phase, REMONDIS Smart Infra worked with Van Hattum en Blankevoort and Den Boer CCI in a construction team to shape the design of the new pumping station. "Our task was to integrate the complete electrical installation into the new design," says Marco van Staalduinen, project manager at REMONDIS Smart Infra. The REMONDIS Smart Infra team from Wateringen has many decades of experience working on pumping stations. "Water management is an important part of our service. We know exactly what is expected of us. So we have been working with Hollandse Delta water board for many years. We realize various projects together every year, know the organization and the employees. That helps with the development of this new pumping station so that we can deliver it to the administrator's wishes."
The electrical installation for Oudenhoorn Pumping Station was completely newly developed and constructed. "That starts with the lighting and extends to a completely new transformer building," says Wouter van Hal, work planner for electrical installations at REMONDIS Smart Infra. "The transformer building was done by the water board itself. It was up to us to provide the power cables and design, develop and install all the switch and control cabinets around it for controlling the new pump and fish migration system, among other things. All this makes it quite complex, especially since we are dealing here with a civil construction that is being reused and through which we are also "poking" cables and pipes to some extent. That requires a critical look at the existing construction and seamless coordination with all those involved to look integrally at where what provisions need to be made. All valves, circuits and level measurements must function later and ensure a working pumping station."
The new pump has now been installed and the fish migration system is also nearing completion. REMONDIS Smart Infra is currently busy installing the switch and control boxes so that pumping station Oudenhoorn can be extensively tested from February 2024. The gentlemen are quite looking forward to this. "For us, it is a wonderful project and a privilege to work together with all the different disciplines and companies to build Hollandse Delta Water Board's most sustainable pumping station."
