Increasing recognition for biological wastewater management

Increasing recognition for biological wastewater management

'We let nature do its work'

At the RioleringsVakdagen you will meet Macero's green 'friends', namely the biologically working grease, oil and odor-eaters. They do rewarding work in many a sewer system, grease pit, and wastewater treatment plant. The importance of biological wastewater management is recognized by the Dutch government in the form of subsidies for research into the effect on sewage and sewage treatment.

Macero has been active in the market for some time with their green and sustainable solutions to problems in sewer systems and wastewater treatment plants. It does so in close cooperation with QM Environmental Services Netherlands. The latter is a specialist in solutions for communal and industrial wastewater treatment and deodorization. Now that not a day goes by that people talk about sustainability, they have the wind in their sails. "We let nature do its work," says QM's Robert Wagenveld. "Our MicroCat bacteria, or our green friends, break down grease, oils and other substances that cause clogs and odor problems, among other things. Now that sustainability is a hot issue, we also notice that companies, municipalities and industry are more open to it and have a lot of interest in our biological solutions."

Saving on maintenance costs

Macero offers a wide range of grease, oil and odor-eaters. Ranging from the BioPop, the grease eater that prevents blockages and produces cleaner wastewater, the BioBas that breaks down oil, gasoline, and petroleum residues, and ANL, the odor eater that prevents the formation of H2S. Anke Sjerp of Macero: "We are called in by companies, the hospitality industry and municipalities when there are blockages and/or odor problems. More important, however, is that we work preventively, thus preventing such problems. This saves our customers considerably on their maintenance costs. We identify bottlenecks on site, draw up a treatment plan and then take action. We install our products, monitor progress and make adjustments where necessary. This keeps the drainage system free of greases, oils and nuisance odors."

Results visible

During the Sewerage Trade Days, Macero and QM will present  together their solutions and products. Anke Sjerp: "At the trade fair we show animations and visuals about how we work and what the results are. For example, you can see sewers before treatment and after our treatment. Visitors can also meet our grease, oil and odor eliminators for themselves."

Impact research

Their approach and method has attracted serious interest from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, among others. For example, they received a grant for the TKI Solution sewer grease project being carried out by KWR in Nieuwegein.  Together with two municipalities and two water boards, Macero and QM are having research done on the short- and long-term effect of their treatment methods on sewage and sewage treatment. Results are expected by the middle of this year.
