Sustainable and modular sewer systems

As a preferred supplier to BAM Infra Nederland, DYKA fully met the demand for plastic sewer systems on the N395 project. In addition to quite a few meters of PVC pipes, some of which were produced from recycled material, grateful use was also made of the Axedo PP collection. These inspection manholes can be fully customized on the job with components to suit the situation at hand.

DYKA is perhaps the country's best-known supplier of plastic sewer solutions in the infrastructure sector. "With our factory in Steenwijk and a widespread branch network, we are close to the customer. There is always a branch close to a project," says Carlo van Schijndel, Rayon Manager GWW Zuid-Nederland at DYKA. "Almost all products for the infrastructure sector are produced in Steenwijk. That means we can switch quickly, assist clients with advice where necessary and deliver our products mostly from stock."

Because the components are made of PP, which has high chemical resistance and a smooth surface, dirt does not adhere easily which in turn reduces the likelihood of sewer blockages.

40 percent recyclate

For the N395 project, DYKA supplied plastic piping systems in various designs and a number of standard Axedo PP inspection manholes. "A sustainability requirement was imposed from the client," Van Schijndel knows. "We fulfilled this with, for example, our PVC Ultra-3 Recyline pipes provided with a KOMO certificate. This pipe system consists of an inner and outer layer of new plastic and a core layer of foamed recycled material. In doing so, we guarantee the use of at least 40 percent recyclate. Moreover, consider that PVC can be reused up to seven times without losing quality. Even after a service life of one hundred years. Our Recyline pipes are suitable for house and gully connections and main sewers in classes 41/SN 4 and 34/SN 8. We have also supplied a good number of meters of flexible drainage with a casing made of PP fibers (PP450)."

Modular inspection well

To make the newly constructed sewers on the N395 accessible for maintenance and inspection, BAM chose the modular inspection manholes from DYKA's Axedo PP collection. "This type of inspection manhole is assembled on site from components available from stock," Van Schijndel explains. "One can tailor the manhole completely to the situation on site. The manholes and other loose components weigh a maximum of 25 kilograms (except for the concrete pressure distribution plate and manhole cover), making transport, placement and assembly easy. Despite the low weight, the manholes can be placed in high traffic load situations. This is because the GY/Beton cover and pressure distribution plate transfer the occurring pressure to the surrounding soil.

Because the components are made of PP, which has high chemical resistance and a smooth surface, dirt does not adhere easily which in turn reduces the risk of sewer blockages. For the N395, we supplied the Axedo PP inspection manhole in a diameter of 600 millimeters, but since last year it is also available from stock in a diameter of 800 millimeters."

The modular concept of the inspection manholes and the use of at least 40 percent recyclate in the Ultra-3 Recyline pipes indicate DYKA's continuous focus on tomorrow. "As DYKA, we want to contribute to achieving the goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are continuously working to reduce our energy consumption and the associated CO2-emissions further."

DYKA Nature's Network

"We live in an ever-changing world where we, as DYKA Group, provide value-added solutions to the growing needs associated with urbanization, a huge energy challenge, increasing water scarcity, climate change and a growing need for a more comfortable, healthier and safer lifestyle. That's why we created "Nature's Network," a network through which our solutions help transport, for example, gas, water and air to exactly where they need to be."
