Every day hundreds of people work on the widening of the Juliana Canal. To keep the outdoor work on track, the necessary preparations take place inside the office. An office on site. Algeco delivered and installed a mobile office space in the green and yellow Van den Herik-Sliedrecht house colors.
Can you provide us with office accommodation for a period of eighteen months, with flexibility in terms of layout? This was Van den Herik-Sliedrecht's request to Algeco, the specialist in modular accommodation. "For Van den Herik, we opted for a wood element system, better known as a bulkhead shelter," explains Rik Kamminga of Algeco. "A bulkhead shelter is versatile and offers an ideal solution for offices, canteens or sanitary areas, for example, on construction projects of longer duration, often from eighteen months or more."
One of the reasons a bulkhead shack is often chosen as temporary office space is its practical flexibility combined with its appearance. "A bulkhead shack has a wooden construction, which creates a warmer and more comfortable atmosphere," explains Rik. "In addition, it offers the possibility of fully customizing the space. For example, walls and windows can be placed by half a meter. Moreover, you can easily personalize the bulkhead shack by painting it (or having it painted) in your own house style colors. Van den Herik has taken full advantage of this." In addition to the flexibility and appearance, bulkhead sheds are often also a more attractive cost alternative for longer projects.
The bulkhead shack installed by Algeco is two stories high, 6 meters wide and 29 meters long. It houses several large and smaller offices, a reception desk, a canteen and toilets. Algeco drew up an initial plan for the layout, after which the final layout was determined in consultation with Van den Herik. "We provide both the transport and the installation of the bulkhead sheds. Transporting a bulkhead shelter is very efficient and cost-saving. Each truck can transport 200 m2 of wood elements, which is equivalent to eleven units on six truck combinations. This significantly reduces both transport costs and CO2 emissions." Leo Kruidenier, head of construction at Van den Herik-Sliedrecht, is delighted with Algeco's service: "The widening of the Juliana canal is a special project which requires a great deal of time. Preparation and execution are intertwined. Speed and flexibility are essential. Algeco understood this perfectly. This military operation was carried out quickly and skilfully. In the meantime, we have been keeping warm for months!"
In addition to the bulkhead shack, Algeco delivered a large number of modular units, including special toilet units, in a short period of time. These units are scattered along the route. "The advantage of units is that they can be deployed and installed quickly. This makes them ideal to serve as a canteen or instruction room as they are also used by Van den Herik-Sliedrecht."
The units and bulkhead shack are basically on site along the Juliana Canal for eighteen months, but what if additional space is needed at the construction site tomorrow? Or the office unit is needed for longer than anticipated? Rik: "No problem at Algeco. Algeco Express delivers units (canteen, changing room or office), storage containers and vans the next working day. Our service goes a long way. Whether the project is large or small, we always work in close collaboration with our clients to devise and design cost-effective and flexible solutions. Every project is supervised by one of our project managers who is also the point of contact."
