What we are introducing today is not only an engine platform, but also an important initiative to strengthen Scania's leading position in sustainable transport for this decade," said Alexander Vlaskamp, Scania's Executive Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing. "Our strong focus on transport efficiency steers us in the shift to a world without CO2-emissions. A shift to which our new powertrain will contribute significantly."
In one of the biggest launches since the introduction of the new truck generation in 2016, Scania is now introducing not only a new engine platform, but also services and updates designed to consolidate Scania's position as a leading manufacturer of high-quality heavy trucks.
"We see a transportation world that is changing rapidly, where customer demands for the best overall operating economy and a sustainable future go hand in hand," says Vlaskamp. "At Scania, we have set our goal higher than perhaps any other manufacturer. Not because we think it will be easy, but because we see no other option than to actually meet the targets set in the 2016 Paris Agreement for reducing greenhouse gas emissions."
With the all-new engine platform for Euro 6 vehicles, with power ratings from 420 to 560 hp, Scania's powertrain promises fuel savings averaging 8% for customers in the long-haulage segment. All engines can also run smoothly on HVO fuel, and a FAME biodiesel version can be ordered with two engines. There will be further versions for markets outside Europe and for biogas solutions. The new powertrain also includes new gearboxes and axles and a premium service: Scania ProCare. This service is for customers looking for 100 percent planned uptime. Furthermore, Scania is also introducing an option for digital rear-view mirrors, for increased safety.
"At Scania, we are continuing on the path we have taken to offer our customers a wide range of sustainable solutions," Vlaskamp said. "The proportion of sustainable biofuels and electric vehicles will increase significantly in the coming years, but we all still rely on combi engines for our daily lives. This is exactly why Scania's new engine is so important, as it will contribute to a significant reduction in CO2-emissions for the rest of this decade."
