The smart link between limited grid connection and full construction site

Grid congestion and limited construction power connections are increasingly putting pressure on the progress of construction projects. Especially in inner-city areas or at temporary sites, the available power is often insufficient to allow modern, electrified construction sites to run smoothly. With the Bouwpower developed in-house, Ahlmann Nederland responds to precisely that area of tension: not by simply demanding more power, but by making smarter use of available energy.

The core of the Bouwpower lies in its ability to charge and discharge simultaneously. Whereas traditional solutions often require a heavier mains connection, Bouwpower uses a smaller connection to continuously ‘trickle’ energy, while at the same time leaving sufficient power available for machines and tools on the construction site. In this way, the system acts as an energy buffer between supply and demand.

In practice, this means that projects can continue to run even when peak loads occur or when grid capacity is structurally limited. It prevents downtime and makes it possible to deploy electric equipment at locations where it did not previously seem feasible.

Scalable power, tailored to the job

An additional distinguishing feature is the ability to link multiple units to achieve the required capacities and connections. By combining systems, a 63A connection can be achieved even with the smallest 50 kW version, without depending on one heavy mains connection. This gives you the great advantage of ADR-free transport with a small unit and yet the possibilities of a large battery box. For those for whom ADR is not a limitation, the BP100 (100 kW) and BP200 (200 kW) are options with DC charging. That modularity makes the system scalable: small where you can, bigger where you need to.

For contractors, this means flexibility in work preparation. The energy concept can be tailored to the phase of the project, the type of work and the available infrastructure, rather than the other way around.

Practical on-site connections

In addition to overcoming grid constraints, the Construction Power BP50 is also equipped for everyday use on the construction site. The unit features multiple charging and discharging connections for a variety of applications, from heavier construction equipment to charging hand tools.

All connections are housed behind a lockable door. This makes it possible to charge power tool batteries safely and conveniently, without loose cables or open connection points on the construction site. In practice, this contributes to a neater workplace and prevents unwanted use or damage to connections.

With that combination of different power levels and shielded connections, the BP50 functions not only as an energy buffer, but also as a central power supply on the construction site. This makes the system suitable both for powering large electrical equipment and for daily, small-scale use by tradesmen.

Electrical work without concessions

Where emission-free construction is still sometimes seen as complex or restrictive, the BP50 shows that electrification can also be pragmatic. By cleverly buffering energy and making it available when needed, the solution connects to the daily reality of implementers and project managers.

The relevance of systems like Construction Power will only increase in the coming years. Grid reinforcement is often delayed, while the demand for electrical power on construction sites continues to grow. By focusing not on maximum capacity, but on smart energy distribution and scalability, Ahlmann Netherlands positions a battery-powered generator as a realistic solution to a structural problem.

Not bigger, but smarter: precisely what makes Building Power a standout in the energy transition of construction.
