‘Experience the power of progress’

During open house events in Amsterdam, the present is linked to the future

In Amsterdam, Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe will open its doors to the industry in late September 2026. The goal is not only to showcase machinery, but above all to chart the course for the future of earthmoving equipment. Digitalization, zero-emission operations, and customized production are the common threads running through this vision.

On Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26, Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe (HCME) is hosting two open houses at its manufacturing facility on Siciliëweg in Amsterdam. Visitors will be given a comprehensive overview of the current machine lineup, ranging from compact to heavy-duty earthmoving equipment. At the demonstration area, visitors will also have the opportunity to try out various models for themselves.

The open house events are explicitly focused on the developments facing the construction and infrastructure sectors. Working more efficiently, reducing emissions, and addressing labor shortages require different solutions than in the past. Hitachi is using the event to bring this new direction to life. This is also being done in anticipation of a major change: starting in April 2027, the company will operate under the name LANDCROS. Visitors will get a first glimpse of this during the open house events.

Using the LANDCROS Play simulator program, anyone can operate a machine in challenging conditions.

Autonomous operation

One of the ways this future is taking shape is through technology. For example, there is an autonomous machine on display that can be operated remotely. Visitors can also try out LANDCROS Play, a simulator that lets them experience digital applications in practice. At the same time, the event remains, above all, a meeting place, offering opportunities to catch up with employees and colleagues.

The outdoor area is all about the experience. There, visitors can see for themselves how the latest generation of machines performs. The Zaxis-7 excavators and ZW-7 wheel loaders were developed with lower fuel consumption in mind, while also offering comfort, safety, and reliability. As a result, they are designed to deliver higher productivity and lower operating costs.

In addition to technology, the event will also cover the organizational aspects of equipment management. Hitachi will demonstrate how it supports customers with financing, leasing, and the deployment of young used equipment through Premium Used. In addition, equipment rental through Premium Rental plays a role in the flexible deployment of machines, tailored to changing project needs.

Tour

An important part of the open house events is a tour of the factory. The production facility in Amsterdam has recently been redesigned to better tailor machines to customer-specific requirements. An increasing number of modifications are already being carried out at the factory, such as the installation of swivel-tilt units, overpressure systems, 3D GPS, and centralized grease lubrication. Machines can also be painted directly in the customer’s corporate colors.

This shift has implications for the supply chain. By bringing more work in-house, delivery times are shortened and quality remains more manageable. This allows dealers to focus on further refinement and specific customer customizations. In Amsterdam, this brings together a combination of Japanese quality principles and Dutch practicality.

Sustainability is a second key pillar. During the open house, Hitachi will showcase various electric-powered excavators, including the ZX55U-6EB, ZX85-6EB, and ZE135. These machines enable emission-free operation and are particularly well-suited for urban projects or sites where noise and emissions are a concern.

The focus on electrification is part of a broader trend in which construction equipment must meet new requirements not only from a technical standpoint but also from a societal one. By combining quiet operation with sufficient power, Hitachi is positioning its electric models as a fully-fledged alternative to diesel machines.

A real showstopper during the open house is the LANDCROS One, which bridges the gap between the present and the future.

Digitization

The company is also making strides in the areas of digitization and automation. The highlight is the LANDCROS One, a prototype that combines physical controls with digital interfaces. With the support of artificial intelligence, this machine demonstrates how data and connectivity are playing an increasingly important role on construction sites.

According to Hitachi, the introduction of the LANDCROS name marks a broader shift. The company is no longer positioning itself exclusively as a machine manufacturer, but as a provider of integrated solutions. The existing machines, service, and network will remain unchanged. The new name reflects a combination of customer focus, reliability, openness, and a solution-oriented approach.

The open house events in Amsterdam thus offer more than just an overview of the current product lineup. They demonstrate how a traditional manufacturer is adapting to a sector in flux—from electrification and automation to custom manufacturing and new revenue models centered on equipment usage. For visitors, the event is above all an opportunity to look ahead and apply what they learn to their own operations.
