BBL incentive scheme, promote influx and retention of skilled workers

There are several current events that affect employment in the construction and infrastructure sector. Consider, for example, the corona crisis, the impact of nitrogen and PFAS. Therefore, collective bargaining parties have agreed on a BBL incentive scheme. This scheme is available from November 1, 2020 and is part of a broader package of measures to retain skilled workers for the sector. The scheme will be implemented by the Volandis Fund.

Content of the scheme

As a training company or individual learning company, do you employ an apprentice employee who is starting or has started a BBL training program (level 2 or 3) between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021? If so, you are eligible for the BBL incentive scheme. The subsidy has been set by the collective bargaining parties at €1,250 and is awarded in 2 parts. If you make use of this subsidy as a training or individual training company, you will receive:

  • An initial grant of €500 at the start of training and;
  • A completion grant of €750 upon graduation.

Terms

To qualify for the grant, several conditions must be met. A complete listing of all conditions can be found here. The most important are:

  • The apprentice employee started training in BBL during the period July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
  • The employer (training or individual apprenticeship company) is covered by the Construction & Infra collective bargaining agreement.
  • The apprentice employee has an employment contract of at least 32 hours per week.
  • There is an approved apprenticeship.
  • The training company ensures that the grant visibly benefits the hiring company.
