Volvo Trucks continues to push the boundaries in electric transport. With the introduction of a new generation of electric trucks, with high performance, greater flexibility and a range of up to 700 km*, Volvo Trucks is setting a new standard in heavy‑duty segment.
Volvo Trucks is one of the global market leaders in electric trucks and among the providers with the most extensive electric offerings in the industry. And now there is important news in the field of electrification:
First, a new long-haul electric truck, the Volvo FH Aero Electric extended range, which can travel up to 700 km* on a single battery charge. This is a breakthrough for long-distance electric transportation.
Second, there is the New generation Volvo FH Electric, FM Electric and FMX Electric, with improvements in flexibility, productivity and driving comfort. The completely new powertrain and a new generation of batteries offer a range of up to 470 km*. This makes it possible to switch to electric driving for even more transport assignments.
“We are further sharpening our offering. We are broadening it and enabling electric solutions for an even wider range of transportation applications. In addition, we are adding a leading electric truck with a range of up to 700 kilometers*. This means we can fully address the business needs of our customers who want to switch to electric driving. It has never been easier to replace diesel trucks with electric ones,” said Roger Alm, president of Volvo Trucks. “We are convinced that electric trucks will account for a large share of global road transport in the future. Given the impressive performance of all our new trucks, it's not hard to see why.”

The Volvo FH Aero Electric extended range is the new truck for long-distance transportation. It can travel up to 700 km* on a single battery charge thanks to a new drive technology, the e-axle, which creates space for significantly more battery capacity on board. The truck is equipped with Megawatt Charging System (MCS) charging capability, which makes charging the eight batteries from 20% to 80% take about 50 minutes. This allows charging to take place within the statutory rest time for truck drivers in the EU, contributing to high productivity.
“This long-haul electric truck sets a new standard in the industry. The truck offers excellent range combined with optimal axle load distribution, fast charging and great driving comfort. Customers can use it to cover really long distances and drive an entire working day with the same productivity as diesel trucks,” said Roger Alm.

The new Volvo FH Electric, Volvo FM Electric and Volvo FMX Electric feature a completely new powertrain, for maximum flexibility in a variety of applications and with excellent driving characteristics. The truck is designed so that the driver can drive it and at the same time drive attachments such as a concrete mixer, hook arm or waste container. No additional features are required for this. This is due to an integrated PTO in the gearbox with extended functionality, allowing it to be used while driving. This new generation of electric trucks has a range of up to 470 km* and can be recharged from 20% to 80% in 65 minutes.
“The new generation Volvo FH Electric, Volvo FM Electric and Volvo FMX Electric is packed with new, smart features. They offer excellent driving comfort and make emission-free transport possible for wide deployment,” said Roger Alm.

The new trucks are equipped with a gearbox optimized for electric drive combined with dual electric motors. This ensures smoother and more manageable performance. The new powershift gearbox, with eight gears in the new Volvo FH Electric, FM Electric and FMX Electric and with six gears in the FH Aero Electric extended range, ensures smooth gear changes. In addition, the trucks produce less noise and vibration, making the workday more pleasant.
Volvo Trucks will launch the new trucks incrementally starting in the second half of 2026.
*The range depends on external conditions, such as weather and air resistance, as well as other factors, such as the total weight of the truck and the driver's driving behavior.

Volvo Trucks is driving the transition to fossil-free transportation to achieve its goal of net zero emissions by 2040 with a three-pillar strategy. This is based on battery-electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles and internal combustion engines running on renewable fuels such as green hydrogen, bio-LNG, biodiesel or HVO.
