Climate adaptation is a hot topic. Municipalities, water boards, engineering firms and landscape architects are increasingly faced with issues related to water management and heat stress. Finding the right products and solutions for these challenges can be quite a quest. To facilitate this process, TBS-SVA -market leader in drainage solutions- is launching the AquaCare® microsite. This site provides a clear overview of available products under five headings: buffering, filtration, infiltration, delayed drainage and heat stress relief.

Wide climate adaptive product range

In previous editions of GWW-Bouwmat, we discussed TBS-SVA's diverse climate-adaptive products, such as the Mini Rain Garden, the Cool City Draingoot, the Cyclone filter well gully, the Wadi dirt trap inflow gully and more. "Each and every one of these products where the focus is not only on quickly draining, infiltrating or buffering water, but especially to do so in the most responsible way possible," says Willy Bruckers, commercial director of TBS-SVA Group. "Because infiltrating CLEAN water is hugely important," he stresses. Willy is proud of the ever-widening product range that TBS-SVA has to offer in this regard. "Therefore, we make sure that the people who have to implement these types of products in projects can easily have the right information and know what is available." 

Clear, user-friendly and easy to find

"With the launch of this new site, we therefore want to better support engineering firms and landscape architects in particular in their search for climate-adaptive solutions for municipal projects or water boards, among others," says Willy. "We see that they often run into the same issues: which products are available and how to make the right choices. On our site we make sure that the relevant information is clear, user-friendly and easy to find." 

Five headings that cover the load

"On the AquaCare® website, we have divided the products into five sections that basically represent the most common climate adaptation issues within our industry," Willy continued. 

• Buffering: Capture and temporarily buffer water to prevent flooding.
• Filtering: Preventing impurities from entering groundwater.
• Infiltration: Infiltrate water into the ground, important for replenishing groundwater reserves.
• Delayed discharge: Slow down discharge of water to avoid peak loads on the sewer system.
• Heat stress relief: Green solutions in water management that contribute to heat stress relief in urban areas.

Multiple functions of products

"Each section contains product information, animations, brochures and, of course, more information important in making the right choice. The great thing about this is that many of the products we offer combine multiple features. That's why they can also be found in multiple sections." Willy cites the Cool City Draingoot as an example. "This can infiltrate, buffer and delay water discharge, and combats heat stress in urbanized areas."

This unique combination allows one product to address multiple challenges. This is especially useful for projects in busy, urban environments, where space is limited. But of course, TBS-SVA's products are suitable for all kinds of applications, from shopping streets and plazas to sports fields, parking lots and other urban infrastructure.

Support from a climate consultant

In addition to extensive product information, TBS-SVA also has a climate consultant. Lars Eemans has extensive experience in advising municipalities and engineering firms on climate adaptation. "I specialize in products and solutions for these types of issues and have already given dozens of presentations to various agencies," Lars said. He notes that many clients only think about one aspect of the issue, such as water infiltration, without being aware of the other possibilities, such as filtration or underground buffering. "Our job is to think along and provide solutions beyond the initial question."

Compact, smart, simple or beautiful

"Take for example the INFILO rainwater infiltration pit: a compact pit that can be built in quite high under the pavement and is suitable for locations with limited space." One of the most clever solutions of the past two years, according to Willy, is the Cyclone filter well gully. "A compact pit that you place behind traditional gullies to give additional treatment to the stormwater runoff. Really a clever combination of filtration and infiltration, ideal for polluted urban areas." Willy emphasizes that some solutions need not be expensive or complicated at all. "Think of the Wadi dirt trap inflow gully, a simple, affordable and effective solution with a big effect. Perfect for trapping dirt at wadis, and which can also be cleaned just like an ordinary gully with a standard gully cleaner." Finally, Willy mentions the Mini Rain Garden: "A product that combines water buffering and heat stress relief and is an aesthetic addition in urban environments.
