Extra eyes for road traffic control

National highways in the Netherlands are monitored by thousands of cameras (IM cameras). They are the 'digital eyes' for Rijkswaterstaat's road traffic controllers in the traffic centers. On the new route of the A9 between Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht, the current cameras will be replaced by new Rijkswaterstaat-validated Hacousto Protec cameras. 

Hacousto Protec (trademark of Bosch Energy and Building Solutions) is a safety and security specialist in complex infrastructure projects such as those undertaken by the Department of Public Works. "We have broad in-depth knowledge in the field of safety & security in the RWS domain, such as rural tunnels, locks and bridges," says Guido van Breen, senior manager of the Security business line. "Organizations that realize projects in this domain know to find us for expertise and specialism in the field of safety & security. Together with them we have been designing, implementing and managing complex systems for many years. Our unique specialism is necessary for daily road and water traffic."

Minimum on-site deployment

According to Van Breen, the added value of Hacousto Protec lies in the fact "that we translate our years of experience with complex issues with a specialist team into a system that fits our client's requirements. This certainly applies to the A9 project between Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht, where we are realizing an efficient solution that meets the requirements of the Department of Public Works. A working method was set up for this with minimal on-site deployment: a matter of hanging up and linking to the Rijkswaterstaat network," Van Breen says. "Together with our client, we have now installed dozens of cameras on this route." In the upcoming period, the area will be further expanded.
