Plenty of innovation in the world of street gullies

At the InfraTech exhibition TBS-SVA out with innovations. These included the anti-slip CROSS GRIP covers, the improved VEPROMAX manhole edge rubber overlay and the Q-Line gullies with hinged stench valve. But also solutions such as storm water gullies, filter gullies and amphibian-safe gullies rolled off the proverbial innovation belt.

"TBS is known for its high quality and workmanship, SVA for its innovativeness," says Willy Bruckers, commercial director. "These two strengths radiate across both brands and this can be seen and felt in our products. Within the GWW, as market leader in the Netherlands, we are the advisor for drainage issues. Here, innovation, sustainability and safety form the basis of our policy and product range." Living up to its promises, the company is presenting seven innovative products at InfraTech 2023.

Heat stress and sustainability

First of all, the Cool City Drain gutter. A product ideally suited to urban areas. Cool City Drain is a new form of water buffering, infiltration, greening and cooling of the inner city. In doing so, it contributes positively to reducing heat stress in cities. A second innovation is the Q-line gully, which TBS-SVA says is the "king of gullies. "Often street gullies end up in a place they were not developed for, resulting in 'rattling' when traffic drives over them, and thus being prone to wear and tear. With the Q-line PRO gully, this is a thing of the past. It incorporates a rock-solid anchorage and a specially designed grating combined with a Polyurethane overlay. This, of course, has very favorable implications for service life and durability."

Resistant to downpours, safe for animals Given climate change and the associated downpours, TBS-SVA comes up with a third interesting innovation: the Stormwater Gully. As the name suggests, this gully drains water up to nine times faster than a traditional gully. If there is a downpour, the water is still drained quickly. A fourth innovative gully is the special amphibian or animal-friendly gully. Small animals like mice, frogs and salamanders sometimes fall into the gully through the grid. The sidewalk gully already has a special frog step but this was prone to damage during maintenance work. TBS-SVA has now developed a grate with smaller slot openings so that frogs and mice can no longer fall into the gully. And for small animals that can still get through, a special climbing frame has been designed that is safe during maintenance work.

Clean water infiltration

Another important innovation is the Cyclone Sump. Dirty rainwater pollutes infiltration facilities and disrupts their continued operation but also introduces unwanted pollution into the soil. The Cyclone Trench Gully solves this. How, "our people at the booth are happy to explain that in more detail."

Welcome to the booth

Says Bruckers, "Because of the cross-fertilization between TBS and SVA, we are in a flow and are well underway in terms of innovative products. In 2023 we will again come up with a number of innovations. You are most welcome to visit our booth where we will be happy to introduce you to the many beautiful and interesting possibilities in the field of street gullies."
