Every road is unique and therefore good and logically arranged signage is very important. During the reconstruction of the A.C. de Graafweg (N241), Traffic Service Nederland is providing the design, delivery and installation of the new traffic measures. With the aim of guaranteeing safety and traffic flow.
The A.C. de Graafweg connects the N242 to the A7 and crosses three municipalities: Heerhugowaard, Opmeer and Medemblik. For safety, the roadway will be widened, there will be fewer entrances and exits, and the bike path will be further from the road. "Signs and beaconing are inseparable from the design of roads," says Remco Braam of Traffic Service Nederland. "On the one hand to provide clarity about the traffic rules and on the other hand for a clear orientation of the road user."
When designing new signage, Braam says it is very important to consider uniformity, continuity and legibility. "Too much information leads to road users spending too much time on the sign and too little on their fellow road users, and too little information leads to them behaving more uncertainly, i.e. less safely," he clarifies. Previously, the ANWB handled the placement and maintenance of signage in the Netherlands. Since 2005, Traffic Service Nederland has been one of the first parties in the Netherlands to enter the vacant signage market. "Since then, we have been a reliable party in this and have carried out various assignments for various governments and contractors. We manage the entire process from inventory, advice, design, delivery and installation to maintenance."
Traffic Service Nederland provides all services and products in cooperation with certified suppliers for RVV signage and beaconing (CE-certified), signage and support structures (which meet requirements of the Department of Public Works). "We thereby ensure that only certified products are placed along public roads," assures Braam. "Everything we do is aimed at improving safety, traffic flow and accessibility. We work with our own people and equipment, which makes us efficient, flexible and also unique. With 10 branches, we are accessible and available throughout and for the whole of the Netherlands. We have all the expertise for both temporary and permanent traffic facilities. However, on this project we were only asked for the permanent signage."
