"The specialist when it comes to soil and sand, from a history that goes back more than a century. That's what we are all about every day," said Jan Willem Hofmans of Ammerzoden-based Zagron. "We know the requirements, wishes and have experience in the contracting industry."
Zagron is a producer and supplier of all types of building materials such as sand, soil, gravel and split. Hofmans: "But we also supply clay, loam, cushioning sand, compost, peat and tree bark. Our soil bank is BRL9335-1/4 and BRL9341 certified. We take in surplus soil at our site or mediate disposal to an end processor or large-scale soil application, and in addition we have the necessary and required reports and inspections performed on the soil."

From its experience in working soils, Zagron established the trade name Terramixx. Hofmans: "Terramixx specializes in the production of soil improvers such as tree sand, tree soil and tree granulate for the stand improvement of trees in an urban environment. We seek an optimal balance between the needs of people and nature."
The growing space for trees in the built environment, both above and below ground, is under severe pressure due to increasingly intensive use of public space, according to Hofmans. "The basis for a good growing site is the right soil, so that trees get enough space and nutrients to grow. We also produce Wadi sand, which allows rainwater to infiltrate well into a wadi, a buffering and infiltration facility. It ensures that in case of heavy flooding, the water is collected and it also provides a beautiful green space in the neighborhood."
Zagron focuses primarily on contractors, municipalities and landscapers in the southern part of the Netherlands. "Because of the diversity of work and thinking along in applications, we never drive back with an empty truck; we can always recycle ourselves. The soil that comes off the job, we take it back with us. We have very few empty miles."
