Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, the combination Mobilis - Iris will carry out the major maintenance of the John Frost Bridge in Arnhem. This monumental bridge, best known as the iconic landmark of Operation Market Garden, is 1 of the most important traffic bridges connecting Arnhem-Center across the Lower Rhine with Arnhem-South and the A325.
TBI company Mobilis is responsible for the concrete activities and Belgian company Iris Industry Solutions will take care of the preservation work on the steel structures. The work will start in spring 2022. From late July through early September, the bridge will be closed to motorized traffic. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use the John Frost Bridge during the work.
The work broadly consists of repairing steel preservation and concrete structures including engineering, paving (asphalt & wearing courses), replacing joint crossings, and repairing historic masonry, pointing and stone work.
Robert Jan Feijen, Mobilis Managing Director: "For the Mobilis-Iris combination, this is a challenging project at an iconic location in Dutch history. The wide range of work contributes to a further continuation of our track-record on bridge renovation assignments."
Innovation and sustainability were key principles in the call for tender to the market. This project is a pilot within the framework of the emission-free construction site of the Department of Public Works. As such, we will have an almost completely electrified construction site and very minimal use of fossil fuels for the equipment to be used. Through clever phasing and construction logistics, we can not only work sustainably with limited emissions, but also minimize inconvenience to the surrounding area and road users.
