Bakker-Metaal is involved in the renovation of the Krammersluizen complex through two of its divisions. While custom-made structures are being produced in the workshop, the The right professionals are assigned to assembly and support tasks. Together, they form a strong team and support the ZEEKR consortium with a wide range of assistance and support services.

A previous successful project in Amstelveen brought Bakker-Metaal into contact with the ZEEKR consortium. “After an introductory meeting, it turned out that we fully met the requirements for supplying both the intended steel structures and additional technical support,” says Peter Bakker, director of Bakker-Metaal. For the project, the structural engineering firm is manufacturing a variety of components, such as connecting plates, handrails around steel hatches, and a lifting frame for an underwater drone.

S355 steel

The two steel connecting plates are made of S355 steel and, according to Peter, required the utmost precision. “The plates are each fourteen meters long and sixty centimeters wide and feature more than five hundred holes, through which they are mounted against the concrete walls of the lock chambers. They thus form the connection to the sheet pile walls, allowing a dry work area to be created inside the lock chamber.”

On-Demand Support

Bakker-Metaal also provides the necessary support on-site as needed. “For example, our employees prepared existing water crates that came out of the lock for transport by cutting them into pieces,” Peter explains. “With our own staffing agency, we can quickly provide additional capacity when the project requires it—from two permanent employees up to as many as thirty during peak periods. That’s the flexibility we offer.”

Bakker-Metaal is known for its short lines of communication. “We respond quickly and effectively. On a complex project like the renovation of the Krammersluizen, it is precisely these qualities that add value for our client,” Peter concludes.
