Standing still is going backwards. A motto that can be taken quite literally at Doosan. Or so says Tom Willems of Tom Willems Grondwerk- en Machineverhuur. He has deliberately chosen Doosan machines because of their optimal performance and, most importantly, their high operational reliability. An interview with the enthusiastic entrepreneur who has had a brand new Doosan DX170W-5 mobile excavator at his disposal since last summer.

Tom Willems Grondwerk- en Machineverhuur has relied on Doosan machines for many years. "In 2006 I started as an entrepreneur with a mini-excavator and a truck with loading crane and tipper. It was mostly a lot of work and little earning," he laughs. "So after a while I decided to start hiring myself out as a machinist to different companies. That worked out better. Among other things, I came into contact with a company that specialized in laying the sub-base for artificial turf fields in Germany. That worked out extremely well, on both sides. At one point, I even got the chance to do this work myself. An opportunity I seized with both hands."

More grip and comfort

Willems is still active in the construction of artificial turf fields. "About 60% of my time is spent working in Germany, the rest of my time is spent on all kinds of earthmoving work, mainly in the Netherlands," Tom continues. "That is also the reason why I recently invested in a new mobile excavator, obviously of the Doosan brand. The previous mobile excavator was also a Doosan. A rock solid machine with very few breakdowns and few repairs. That is a good thing since the machine provides for my daily income. A Doosan is also an interesting choice in terms of price. I have driven plenty of other brands at former employers and cannot say that the more expensive brands are that much better. On the contrary. No, I am very satisfied with my new DX170W-5. It likes it incredibly well and is easy to operate. You sit on it and just drive off. Since I operate a lot in Germany, I chose Ground Kare tires from Nokian for more grip and much more comfort on the road. The machine is also equipped with an Engcon EC219 tiltrotator with DC2 controls."

Doosan is doing well in the Netherlands. Tom has an explanation for this. "Apart from rock solid equipment, it is also just a very pleasant organization to do business with. Really a company with a no-nonsense mentality with employees who are not afraid to speak to me in the evenings, for example. The service is really super."
