Rijnberg BV has specialized in making steel structures, metalworking and performing welding and assembly work at a variety of locations. The company invests in good machinery, expert knowledge and certifications, ensuring the desired quality of the customer. "We have set ourselves up for quality and our certification endorses this," says owner Bertran Rijnberg.
"We may be small in size, but big in the works we do." Metalworking company Rijnberg excels in welding and certifications in accordance with the highest performance classes. In particular, its expertise and specific welding certifications mean that the company is involved in renowned infrastructure projects.
"Since this year we have achieved Step 3 on the Safety Ladder. Furthermore, we have been certified in accordance with VCA** and EN 1090-2 Exc.3 for several years," Bertran says and continues: "Since July 2018, the latest edition of this EN standard has been published. This states that welds between reinforcing steel and structural steel are now also included in the scope of EN 1090-2. In fact, it is described in section 7.1 of EN 1090-2:2018 that one must comply with the NEN-EN-ISO 17660 series of standards."
During the projects Rijnberg carries out, they regularly encounter the welding of rebar. "The reason why we made the choice to obtain various Welding Method Qualifications according to the NEN-EN-ISO 17660-1," says Bertran. "We consider it of great importance to respond completely to the requirements and wishes from the market. However, we are one of the few who have certified separately on this."

"Procedures we have now achieved are 'side lap joints and 'set on' joints. These joints are a combination of rebar and structural steel," Bertran explains. "But we go one step further: because we regularly perform this type of work, we have chosen within Metaalbewerkingsbedrijf Rijnberg to also set up a quality system in accordance with NEN-EN-ISO 17660-1. This quality system can be certified by an independent inspection body as described in Annex D of NEN-EN-ISO 17660-1."
"This quality system was set up by describing all the things you have to comply with within the NEN-EN-ISO 17660-1. The whole thing is recorded by us in a handbook. Some of the things we have included in this are: welding processes, welding coordination, certification of our welders, execution and inspection. In writing the handbook and implementing it on the shop floor, we received support from an external consulting company."
Bertran proudly concludes, "We submitted this handbook to the independent inspection body during our re-audit in accordance with EN 1090-2 in July 2021 and we were therefore able to receive the certificate in accordance with NEN-EN-ISO 17660-1 without any comments. We received a logo from KIWA confirming that we are allowed and able to work according to NEN-EN-ISO 17660."
