Measurement data as a foundation for safe construction

Van Monsjou & Partners has now been part of the Engius Group for a year and a half, which has built a strong position in civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering and infra. The collective of independent engineering firms is growing. In addition to Van Monsjou & Partners, Nepocon and Solid Services, Bureau Schmidt also belongs to Engius. Connecting specializations creates a broad range of services for various clients.

This joining of forces is while maintaining its own name and specializations, says Jan Put, director of Van Monsjou & Partners and branch director at Nepocon Water and Geotechnics in Leiden. For Van Monsjou & Partners, this means that in addition to the familiar services such as height measurements, deformation measurements, vibration measurements and structural (pre)surveys, new possibilities have emerged. Especially in civil engineering and hydraulic engineering, the package has expanded. For example, there is cooperation with Nepocon Water in pore pressure measurements, continuous height measurements and groundwater monitoring.

Put: “Thanks to our self-developed dashboards, we can deliver this data live to clients. We analyze data and advise our clients so that risks are assessed earlier and projects run better.” That approach aligns with Engius“ direction. ”Within the group, we have more clout and greater reach. Combining expertise creates an integrated approach that makes the difference for clients."

For example, Nepocon has expanded its expertise in geotechnical engineering. Besides geohydrology, civil constructions and foundations, there are also plenty of opportunities to support clients in underground construction activities. Put: “There is a lot of pressure on working underground. Monitoring and advice are extra important to prevent failure costs and delays. That's where Van Monsjou & Partners can play a role with monitoring knowledge and tools.”

Bureau Schmidt - with four offices in the Northern Netherlands - also joined Engius and works closely with the partners. Under the holding company Engius, knowledge is bundled and supported with HR, finance and digitalization. The holding company facilitates, but does not direct, as is often the case with large concerns.

Put has worked within water management and civil engineering for forty years, and has experienced different corporate cultures. “It strikes me that within our companies there is room for entrepreneurship and personal development. Our employees appreciate the short lines of communication and direct contact with clients and contractors.”

Technology is often about zeros and ones, but people are just as important, Put knows. “Our specialists have an eye for the environment and for those who have to work with our advice and designs.” Customer contact plays a central role. “Specialists prefer to maintain direct contact with the client. That produces realistic advice and feasible designs, with attention to technical feasibility and cost efficiency.”

Innovation, digitization and automation are also given space. For new employees, there are internal training courses and guidance from experienced colleagues. “This creates a learning culture in which young engineers gain practical experience and experienced specialists pass on their knowledge.”

Van Monsjou & Partners feels valued and heard within the Engius Group, Put says in conclusion. “It's building further together. As a partner, we increase our reach, expand our services and create added value for both our employees and our clients.”
