Collaboration essential for success
Leading foundation company Terracon's goal is to work with the customer to find the best solution for every foundation issue. From pile foundations for large-scale construction projects to suitable foundation piles on challenging sites, Terracon goes for 'best for project'. Director Benjamin Bekhof: "The whole world advises, but it also has to be made. We are a performer who can give advice."
Terracon Funderingstechniek is a subsidiary of Strukton, but operates completely independently. The foundation company can handle all types of pile systems and is active in various sectors, such as industry, chemistry and the rail-civil environment. In addition, the company now 100% owns Tubex, a specialist in difficult foundations. "We distinguish ourselves through our experienced, skilled employees, modern equipment, extensive knowledge and solution-oriented thinking. The acquisition of Tubex has made us even more versatile as a company."
Bekhof emphasizes that getting involved in a project early on is essential. "It's important to actually think about the foundation question before bids are called out. We give advice and can do the work. Of course we would like to do the work, but we stand for 'best for project.' If necessary, we also advise another party. I think that way of working is becoming more and more important. We like to see open and transparent communication in construction. We have to reduce failure costs in construction. Fortunately, I see that more and more companies understand that holding your cards up to your chest does not achieve anything."
The foundation, of course, is essential to any construction project. "By acquiring Tubex, we have expanded our capabilities, we offer solutions for limited space, up to very large. Railinfra is also becoming an important spearhead. This very market segment is going to grow significantly in the coming period. We are talking about the foundation of underpasses and railroad viaducts, but also the many piles under catenary portals. For some projects we need heavy foundation machines and for other projects we need machines that can cope with a low working height, for example. We can now fulfill both of these needs."
Terracon is not only focusing on the Benelux, the company also wants to grow in Germany and the rest of Europe. "We strive to really build a relationship with our client. If you know what you have in common and understand each other's way of working, things will quietly go well. Here, cooperation is essential to achieve success. As a company, we are represented in various project groups and also share a lot of information among ourselves, so that we can learn from each other. The market needs quality. Fortunately, I notice that clients and customers are starting to understand that more and more."
