Infrastructure contractors are increasingly responsible for processing completed projects in the National BGT Facility (Basic Registration of Large-Scale Topography). What is a difficult final item for many is precisely the core of VGI-Support's expertise. The company supports many clients and, increasingly, infrastructure contractors with high-quality geo-services and ensures that all data is processed efficiently, reliably, and completely in the national registries.
As the market leader in BGT processing and a specialist in geo-related basic and core registrations such as BAG, BOR, WOZ, BRK, BRO, and WIBON, VGI-Support works for more than a hundred source holders every day. These range from municipalities, provinces, and water boards to contractors and network operators. “Our mission is to collect and process data on the Netherlands and all its changes (from new construction to infrastructure projects) as efficiently and comprehensively as possible, so that society can rely on up-to-date and consistent geo-data,” says director Lennart Koop.
VGI-Support processes all data in the national registries for infrastructure contractors. “If desired, we can also take care of the entire data collection process. This is done using traditional land surveys, but increasingly also with mobile mapping or the use of drone images,” explains Koop. “Where possible, fieldwork is kept to a minimum: a single trip with the mobile mapping car provides a complete picture of a route in a short time, without causing any disruption or road closures. Based on these point clouds and photographic images, we translate the as-built situation to the BGT.”
In addition, VGI-Support uses artificial intelligence to automate parts of the process. “AI assists with recognition and classification, after which our specialists validate the results. This allows us to make smart use of technology without compromising on quality.”

With an organization of approximately forty permanent employees and a flexible pool of fifteen specialists, VGI-Support offers capacity and continuity. “Our customers particularly appreciate our no-nonsense mentality, high level of service, and quality. Year after year, we score well above 8 in customer satisfaction,” says Koop proudly. “We deliver high quality and high service at an acceptable price.” Jordi Plant, Commercial Manager at VGI Support, adds: “We also distinguish ourselves through our knowledge, experience, and an efficient, in-house developed production line that delivers changes quickly and accurately to the National BGT Facility. This helps infrastructure contractors smoothly fulfill their geo-responsibilities and meet the requirements of their clients. Another major advantage is that we can very efficiently build bridges with adjacent source holders. An infrastructure project sometimes affects not only Rijkswaterstaat or a province, but also a municipality.”
Although it may still seem like a distant prospect, according to Koop, the government is investigating how the various basic registries can be merged into a single Coherent Objects Registry (SOR) in the future. As part of the Zicht op Nederland (View of the Netherlands) program, the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning is working on an integrated object model that will better align registries. National supervisory authorities are increasingly calling for data to be organized and synchronized, so that organizations are better prepared for future developments. With our broad expertise, we are ideally placed to support governments and contractors in this task.‘
Whether it concerns seconding geo-experts to source holders, (remote) supervision of BGT processing, or full project support: VGI-Support ensures that data is accurate and that infrastructure contractors can focus on construction.
