Renault Trucks D achieves 4 stars Euro NCAP and receives CitySafe label

The Renault Trucks D, specially designed for distribution transport, achieved a 4-star rating in the Euro NCAP 2026 test for trucks. In addition, the vehicle received the CitySafe label, which is awarded to the safest trucks for urban traffic and the protection of vulnerable road users.

Euro NCAP is considered the European reference for vehicle safety and recently published the results of its latest round of assessments for heavy trucks. This is the first time the Renault Trucks D has been subjected to this comprehensive safety test. With a direct score of four stars, the model confirms the quality and effectiveness of its active and passive safety systems. Euro NCAP particularly praised the advanced driver assistance systems and collision avoidance technologies on board the Renault Trucks D1.

Systems specifically designed for use in urban environments

Euro NCAP particularly praised excellent driver visibility, including:

  • The vision door, the passenger side door with extra low window (optional), which significantly improves direct visibility.
  • The high-quality indirect vision systems, such as the optional panoramic camera and passenger side camera.

In addition, several features contribute to a safer and more relaxed driving experience:

  • Distance warning when the truck drives too close to the vehicle in front.
  • Advanced safety systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC - adaptive cruise control) and an Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEB - advanced emergency braking system).

According to Euro NCAP: “The ACC and AEB proved extremely effective in preventing rear-end collisions with other vehicles. The AEB system also performed very well in frontal situations involving pedestrians and cyclists.”

A recent update also ensures that the AEB system automatically reactivates itself after 15 minutes when deactivated, guaranteeing continuous protection for the driver and other road users.

The overall safe driving score for the Renault Trucks D is 75%, made up of 59% for collision avoidance and 80% for post-accident systems.

Thanks to its comprehensive safety level, the Renault Trucks D also received the CitySafe label. This places the vehicle among the safest trucks for urban traffic, with particular attention paid to vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians.

Euro NCAP: booster of road safety

Since 1997, Euro NCAP has played an important role in raising safety standards for passenger cars. Since 2024, the test program has been extended to trucks, with the aim of encouraging the industry to deploy even more advanced safety technologies. Renault Trucks fully supports this development and is committed to ensuring maximum safety for both truck drivers and other road users.

In addition to the Renault Trucks D, the Renault Trucks T (long-haul transport) has also been awarded a 4-star Euro NCAP score and the CitySafe label.

The 2026 Euro NCAP rating is made up of a 1- to 5-star scale and assesses vehicles on three components:

  • Safe driving: assessment of driver behavior, direct and indirect vision, and driver assistance systems.
  • Collision avoidance: assessment of vehicle behavior during head-on collisions with vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, lane changes and low-speed maneuvers.
  • Post-accident systems: information provision for emergency services and accessibility for emergency interventions.
