Weijtmans can now also harvest emission-free trees

Boomrooij Weijtmans recently invested no less than five million euros in the electrification of their machinery and the development of their own "solar park. Tree harvesting can therefore also be emission-free from now on. "If you want to stand out and lead the way, you have to have a straight back and a long breath. Moreover, it requires inventiveness. But, with a hundred years of experience, we are used to something," says director-owner Kees Weijtmans.

Boomrooierij Weijtmans' electrical machinery fleet is now impressive. "In addition to an arsenal of battery-powered tools, we now have a 16-ton electric mobile crane and two electric service buses in operation," Kees explains. "To use the power generated from our solar panels for our electric equipment, we have invested in two 1,600 kWh battery containers. Two more electric crane trucks are also on order, as well as an electric truck-mounted work platform and an electric container truck, so we can move the battery containers."

However, the patience of the tree specialist is being sorely tested. The electric trucks were supposed to be delivered by the end of 2022, but delivery has already been delayed six times and will take place by the end of 2024, according to the latest reports. Obtaining a heavier power connection also requires patience. The waiting time is as much as 15 months to two years. Still, Kees remains optimistic. "A positive attitude and inventiveness help in these cases. For example, in the evenings we use a heavier power connection from a metal company around the corner to charge our equipment."

So while the energy transition has its challenges, the influx of great assignments at Boomrooij Weijtmans does remain constant. "If a customer calls today to carry out a project completely emission-free, we can do it. That's also worth something."
