On the way to a cleaner construction site

Toward a cleaner construction site

Foundation specialist Fundex, founded in 1953, has been an expert in international foundation projects for many years. That status is only achieved if you continuously innovate and there is also the company is unique in that. For example, recently the fully electric Fundex CD20E drilling machine was put into use, and there is a first successful trial conducted with the Fundex F4800E in Leiden.

Fundex is investing in a cleaner construction site. The CD20E is a compact zero emission foundation machine that produces less noise and fewer emissions. In addition, the CD20E is flexible and versatile and is a great alternative in areas with strict environmental standards. This also applies to the Fundex F4800E, which was first used on a project in Leiden. Fundex worked here together with Greener and Dura Vermeer Bouw Zuid. The foundation work was performed using a zero emission drilling rig. The F4800E was equipped with a vibration-free drill which took into account the immediate neighbors. "Zero-emission foundation machines will play a decisive role in the realization of future construction projects," says Davy Maes, general manager at Funderingstechnieken Verstraeten, the specialist within the group in soil displacement, vibration-free techniques.

FUNDEX® and TUBEX® are two brands owned by the Fundex group 100% and they symbolize the innovative power of the company. Davy: "A number of foundation companies in the world are allowed to make Fundex and Tubex piles, as long as the right drilling points are used and purchased through us. This results in a certain minimum quality level, necessary to give these pile types the name Fundex or Tubex. Over the years we continue to improve our products and are seen in the market as the specialist in the field of vibration-free (deep) foundations."

Nexus Case Study

Nexus is a sustainable lifescience building with offices and laboratories for scale-ups that Dura Vermeer is building at the Bio Science Park in Leiden. Nexus aims to achieve BREEAM Excellent certification, an international standard for classifying buildings on sustainability and energy efficiency. Both in the design and construction phases, ecological, social and economic sustainability performance is taken into account to create a working environment for companies that want to reduce their environmental impact, just like Fundex. The deployment of the F4800E on this project, equipped with battery packs, therefore electric and zero-emission, was therefore a logical choice.

"We've been working on making all our light and heavy foundation machines more sustainable for quite some time now, and in the last few years we've actually seen orders for this," says Davy. "The cooperation with the customer, but also with the suppliers of batteries, software and the specific knowledge of electrification and connection is a must. Less noise results in less inconvenience in an inner-city area and results in a completely different perception of construction work in the living environment. We are on the right path in the foundation industry and will certainly be ready to meet the ESG guidelines of 2030, 2040 and 2050! On to a cleaner construction site!"
