A team of experts from a variety of disciplines determined how best to renovate the toll tunnel - complete with toll plaza, toll booths and control systems. Implementation of the plan was awarded to contractor combination sKILs, consisting of Mourik Infra and Dynniq Mobility.
Mourik Infra was a member of the construction team and is now a partner of contractor combination sKILs. Thus it was involved in the project from the very first moment. "We are a seasoned party in the field of complex infrastructure works," says Johan den Ouden, project manager of Mourik Infra. "This includes renovations and major maintenance of roads, bridges, locks, movable objects and tunnels. So we can contribute a lot of know-how in this area."
The total renovation of the Dordtse Kil tunnel includes a wide range of work. For example, all traffic and tunnel technical installations will be replaced. This includes safety facilities, electrical installations, LED lighting, signaling, fire extinguishing systems, communication facilities (camera, public address and intercom systems) and the control and operating systems. Everywhere, the preservation will be renewed and concrete damage repaired. And prior to all this, the layout of the entire toll plaza will be renewed. Here the sKILs combination is building a new office building and new toll booths. The addition of a fifth toll lane with different payment systems will complete the renovation. The set of measures should also reduce maintenance and management costs, energy consumption and CO2-emissions in the future.
Combination sKILs is now well underway. "The foundation piles for the new office building and stairwell have been driven," says Den Ouden. "Right now, we are placing the walls here, which are now protruding above ground level. At the same time, we are milling the asphalt from the existing bike lanes to make room for the redesign. The designs for the renovation of the tunnel technical installations are now on the drawing board."
The work of the sKILs combination is expected to be completed by mid-2022. The toll plaza and tunnel installations will then be safe and guarantee mobility for years to come.
