Although Max Bögl has been a new player in the Dutch energy market since early 2024, the company brings with it a wealth of knowledge and experience. Max Bögl is among the largest construction companies in the German construction industry with a solid position in the German energy market. As part of the Max Bögl group, the branch in the Netherlands has been realizing projects in civil infrastructure for almost 25 years and Max Bögl Netherlands has strong technical as well as project competencies. What also sets the organization apart is its emphatic focus on industrialized and prefabricated construction. An approach that combines speed, quality and scalability and is crucial to accelerating the energy transition.
In early 2024, Max Bögl Netherlands took the step to enter the energy market. “In addition to civil infrastructure, we chose to establish a separate branch focused on the growing demand for grid expansion and sustainability,” says Mike Rijnbeek, director of the Energy Division. Shortly thereafter, a first framework agreement was acquired for Liander, focused on the expansion of the medium-voltage grid. Meanwhile, Max Bögl has also secured a long-term framework agreement for grid operator Enexis, further strengthening its position in the market.
According to Rijnbeek, the ambitions extend beyond medium voltage alone. “We also want to become active in the high-voltage market, building distribution stations, and in new forms of energy such as heat networks and hydrogen,” he says. The combination of civil concrete construction and electrical engineering expertise makes the company uniquely positioned to offer complete solutions within the energy transition, adds Mara Ririassa, managing director of Max Bögl Netherlands. “From our strategic ‘Build +X’ we are strongly committed to industrialization and system construction. For the network expansion, then, we are concretely considering the construction of new stations and this approach offers great advantages: prefabricated and industrialized processes allow us to do more work faster, more efficiently and with fewer people. A crucial factor in a market where capacity is scarce.”

Max Bögl has eight precast plants in Germany, some of which are close to the Dutch border. “We control the entire chain, from design and production to execution,” emphasizes Rijnbeek. “Where many contractors depend on external partners, our integrated approach allows us to develop and realize faster.” According to Ririassa, the international cooperation within Max Bögl ensures a continuous exchange of knowledge and innovations. “For example, we share our experiences with emission-free equipment with German colleagues, while expertise in the field of HDD drilling and wind turbine construction is again brought in from Germany. In this way we remain a learning organization and add capacity to the market.” For example, did you know that Max Bögl has completed 26 wind turbine towers in the Netherlands? They are based on his hybrid wind turbine mast concept and are located in Dronten as part of Windplan Groen.
Max Bögl Netherlands“ energy branch is growing steadily. ”We have grown from a team of four employees in 2024 but now work with more than 50 professionals,“ says Rijnbeek. ”The goal is clear: to grow into a complete player in the energy market, active in the full breadth of the energy mix: from (underground) grid extensions to station construction, wind turbines, heat and hydrogen."
