Van Tunen operates worldwide in coastal and shoreline work, dredging, earthmoving and mining. The family business is especially known for its huge earthmoving machines, which are maintained in-house and often even adapted project-specifically. To live up to its intended growth, Van Tunen is constantly looking for machinists, mechanics and technical staff. "The time we spend together is limited, so make the most of your career," says Yvonne van Tunen. "With us, there is plenty of room for personal development and growth."

Van Tunen has been in existence for more than 65 years and provides project, rental and support services to clients worldwide. "We operate a lot in the dredging and construction sector for large and small companies," says the director who, together with her brothers, forms the third generation in the family business. "We rent equipment from 30 tons own weight up to 350 tons. If required, we fully customize the machines to customer specifications or for a specific project. We do that entirely in-house. Just like maintenance, for that matter. Moreover, we continue where others stop. We usually come around the corner when projects have a challenge. And whether that challenge is on Dutch territory or international territory, that doesn't matter to us. We travel with our clients to the most impressive projects in our industry."

Technical innovation and support

But dredging-related projects in ports and canals are also right up Van Tunen's alley. "Although the market may know us well from the big cranes, we actually have a very diverse machine fleet," says Van Tunen. "We also supply a good dump-set, consisting of bulldozers, wheel loaders and fully equipped mobile workshops, to global projects where beaches are washed up. A lot we are on projects where port expansions are taking place or large breakwaters need to be placed. Those big cranes are often the eye-catchers at work. But don't forget our dump trucks, for example. They are badly needed for the logistical supply of all kinds of stones and concrete elements from which breakwaters are built. And so we can be found with varied equipment in the Netherlands but also in every corner of the world. We distinguish ourselves in technical innovation and support. It is our operators and mechanics who make the difference. Every day we have between 100 and 150 people at work. On unmanned rentals, at least one of our mechanics always goes along for an oversight of the technology. Machines often run around the clock, so maintenance frequency is high. Our people know exactly how the machine works. Continuity and reliable equipment are essential on the projects we are deployed on."

Consequently, Van Tunen invests heavily in training and education. "We believe that our people then flourish better within our company. Moreover, it is also valuable for the rest of their careers," says Van Tunen. "We offer a variety of learning opportunities about hydraulics, lubrication systems, oils and safety, for example. But also complete training courses for people who really want to immerse themselves in the profession. We also do this, for example, through learning/working paths in cooperation with SOMA College in Harderwijk. Within our family business it is most important to us that you have a passion for technology and an eye for quality. Of course it is very nice if you are already well versed in the profession, but with us you can succeed. Growing together is our motto.
