To ensure that the Rijnkade in Arnhem meets future climate and high-water scenarios, Bouwcombinatie SAMEN was commissioned by Waterschap Rijn en IJssel and the Municipality of Arnhem to reinforce the dike at the site over a length of 1.2 kilometers. Bosch Beton, operating out of Barneveld, contributed substantially to the special project, which is part of the so-called High Water Protection Program. In total, the retaining wall manufacturer supplied more than 400 precast concrete elements.
The work carried out by Bouwcombinatie SAMEN (a joint venture between G. van der Ven Aannemingsbedrijf, Ballast Nedam and Hakkers) ensures that the dike construction on the Rijnkade can last another 100 years. While preserving the authentic and green character of the dike. The project, which began in 2023, is unique, particularly because the work was almost entirely emission-free. Virtually all work was carried out using electric equipment. This has significantly reduced both CO2 emissions and noise pollution.
The retaining walls and suspension aprons, manufactured by Bosch Beton and specially designed for this project, were first transported by electric truck from the state-of-the-art factory in Barneveld to a water hub in Arnhem. From there, transport to the quay took place by ship. An approach that significantly reduced traffic movements in the Arnhem city center. The concrete elements were then placed from the water by an electric crane ship (the Ibis). The use of prefabricated retaining walls and suspension aprons saved time, significantly shortening the project lead time.
From the desire to be a solid cooperation partner for its customers, Bosch Beton strives to offer a sustainable retaining wall solution tailored to every situation. This was once again evident in Arnhem, where the family business delivered environmentally friendly and innovative workmanship. For every demand from the GWW and agricultural sector, the retaining wall manufacturer offers a high-quality and at the same time sustainable product that seamlessly meets the customer's needs. Now and in the future. In line with its customer promise "Building a solid future," the ambitious family business wants, among other things, to make the footprint of its customers and itself as small as possible. With this approach, Bosch Beton has also been active in Arnhem. To the great satisfaction of Ties von den Hoff, work planner at G. van der Ven Aannemingsbedrijf, among others. "We chose Bosch Beton because the company can produce many specials in a short time frame. In addition, they are very collaborative and solution-oriented. All of this has made my cooperation with Bosch Beton a very pleasant experience."
