High quality and dimensional stability

Van Dijk Beton has been a renowned name in the infrastructure sector for many years. Noise barrier walls, retaining walls, foundation blocks and piers in precast concrete, it all comes from the factory in Groot-Ammers. Piece by piece in high quality and with exceptional dimensional stability. That is also why Combinatie Herepoort called on Van Dijk Beton to supply more than a hundred portal piles and, in addition, over a thousand piles for the noise barriers on Groningen's new southern ring road.

Van Dijk Beton is strong in producing large and heavy precast concrete products with solid quality and high dimensional stability. "Certainly within the concrete industry, this is not self-evident, given the raw material we work with," knows Henk Schaap, commercial director at Van Dijk Beton. "It does ensure that customers in the infrastructure sector like to come to us. After all, they can easily build on our products. In the case of the VDC portal piles for the Department of Public Works, for example, it is important that the anchors protrude from the element at the correct position so that they match the anchorage points of the portal itself, which will only be assembled at a later stage. We get a lot of compliments on that."

Weights of 34 tons

We lived up to our reputation as a reliable supplier of quality products again on this project, says Henk. "Meanwhile, we have already delivered more than a hundred portal piles in many formats. The largest was approximately 11 meters long by 1 meter wide and 1.5 meters high with a weight of 34 tons. Because ground work was still being carried out around 'our' piles at various locations during the project, we fitted a number of piles with pouring facilities so that a safety platform could be placed around the pile in order to work safely at height, since the portals were often already set in their positions while the ground work was still moving regularly."

Just-in-time delivery

In addition to the order to supply the portal piles, Van Dijk Beton also received an order to supply more than a thousand piles for the noise barriers. Henk: "We delivered the precast concrete piles in a wide variety of sizes, from 1 by 1 by 0.85 meters high to 2.80 by 2.50 by 2 meters high. And thus varying in weight from 2 to 30 tons. All precast concrete products were also produced and delivered in phases. The first deliveries date from September 2023 and we delivered the last elements in September 2024." According to Henk, just-in-time deliveries were very often required, including nights and weekends. "That required the necessary coordination with Combinatie Herepoort, but we were also entrusted with that. We are fully equipped for that as an organization. "
