NTA for IFD construction movable bridges published

NEN, in collaboration with bridge builders, engineering firms, construction companies and clients, has revised NTA 8086 IFD construction movable bridges.

The construction industry wants to be circular by 2050. Industrial, flexible and demountable (IFD) bridge construction contributes to this dot on the horizon by agreeing on terminology, bridge elements and methods in a Dutch Technical Agreement (NTA).

NTA 8086 is considered an example of how circularity based on agreements can be given a boost. Not only does it fulfill the climate goals, but it is also one of the solutions to the bridge challenge facing the Netherlands. IFD construction standardizes interfaces between building parts and components of bridges. The strength of the NTA principle is that various parties in the Earth, Road and Hydraulic Engineering (GWW) sector work together to reach agreements.

Revision NTA 8086

The NTA for movable bridges was revised in collaboration with various stakeholders. Each party contributed its expertise. Partners from the entire GWW sector jointly determined and established the content. Existing standards, electrical installations and service life were taken into account.

The main added value of the new NTA 8086 are the size classes for different details, broadening the scope to other types of bridges and the definition of control interfaces.
